Sabres, Isles two of many with interest in Danny Briere

The market for Danny Briere is starting to take shape.

When the Flyers bought out the remainder of the veteran’s contract, attention immediately turned to where he might be a good fit. He is certainly on the downside of his career after scoring just six goals with 10 assists this season in Philly and will turn 36 about the time that the season begins. Not to mention he feels right at home in Philly and has been open about not wanting to go too far away; he has his kids to think about.

Luckily, Philadephia is pretty centrally located in the Eastern Conference, leaving a few more options. A few teams are already showing signs of interest.

One is Briere’s former team, the Buffalo Sabres. GM Darcy Regier has begun the process of rebuilding in Buffalo, but no rebuild is complete without some veteran players to tag along for the ride and serve as a mentor. Regier told Paul Hamilton of WGR 550 in Buffalo that they will be in touch with Briere’s camp.

Another team, one that seems to make a lot of sense, is the Islanders. Yes, they have interest, too, according to Katie Strang of ESPN New York.
