Salary Cap Rising…

TSN.ca is reporting that due to how successful the New NHL has been, the salary cap will be rising to somewhere between $40-$45M.This season the cap was $39M. If it ends up being at the lower end of the expected range, then it wont be much of a difference, however if it reaches the 45 mark, then that could make a bit more wiggle room , especially for big market teams such as the Leafs, or Wings, etc.

Raise the cap to whatever you want Mr Bettman. As long as there is revenue sharing, where teams like my Oilers, or the Flames, Sens, Nucks, and Habs can compete with teams like the Buds and Rangers, then I’m happy. But be careful. If you raise the cap too high, it may lead to “small-market teams” being able to spend less than “big-market teams”. And this would lead to the same problems we had before the new CBA.

  2. 24_cups_and_counting says:

Raise the cap all you want, The Leafs still won’t win a stanley cup!

  3. JannettyTheRocker says:

    lol Isn’t that the truth!!!

  4. toronto77 says:

ain’t that also the truth about ur oilers

  5. JannettyTheRocker says:

    OUCH, that hurt……You’re so witty!!!!

  6. Rysto says:

Guys, the cap rises in proportion with league revenues. Bettman has nothing to do with this, other than announcing that projections say that the league will take in more revenue than originally forecast, so the cap will rise.

  7. imbonitz says:

Give me a break! Owners of any of those teams could handle a 45m dollar payroll, they choose not to because they’re so cheap.

  8. JannettyTheRocker says:

By the way, the Oilers last won a Cup in 1990!!! When was the Leaf’s last Cup……1967 I do believe……….Nuff said.

  9. shakrmakr says:

So you had your decade well so did the Leafs fans but the leafs are in far better position to win a cup now then the Oilers are. I think the Oiler fans should concentrate on making the playoffs before talking stanley cup.

  10. Mullet says:

I think with the rise in the cap next year, the Leafs will most likely take a big time run at Defenceman Rob Blake!!

As a neutral person to this site I’ve got to wonder if some of you morons have nothing better to write about than slamming the leafs when there are 29 other teams and approx. half of them are in worse shape. It gets a little old coming here and reading the same drivel regardless of the subject at hand and it always seems to be the same people that are the guilty. Grow a life people, broaden your horizons and talk about something pertinent to the subject heading.

  12. JannettyTheRocker says:

Hahaha!!!!! The Leafs are in a greater position for a Cup? You guys have been saying this stuff for over 30 years, and still no cups……………The Oilers are by far a much better team than the Leafs, and have a much greater chance at winning a Cup…………Main reason this is true, they’re not the Leafs.

  13. Kraut182 says:

While, if the cap goes up to $45M then it means that there is enough money, even in places like Edmonton, for them to be spending more than they are now. That’s the point of a fluctuating cap, so that it varies with the levels that teams have to spend. If the cap goes up to 50 or even 60 million, it is because there is that much money available.

And all the Canadian teams should be doing very well right now, the dollar is at something like a 25 year high and has gone up something like 25-30 % over the last few years.

  14. Flyer_Dman says:

If the Max rises it also means that the Min rises as well. Also, the cap wouldn’t rise if the money that the smaller market teams were making couldn’t afford it with increased ticket sales, revenue sharing payments, and tv deals.

first off the oils dun even have a decent goalie…..the leafs have 2 very competitive goalies…..and having a strong goalie is REALLY important

  16. toronto77 says:

finally some one steps up and says sumtin

  17. toronto77 says:

WTF……u posted this comment in 3 different articles….it’s gettn old…..i think the mullet is finally gettn to you.

  18. JannettyTheRocker says:

Actually we have three hot goalies right now. We are doing just fine with the goaltending we have……Jussi Markkanen, Ty Conklin, and Mike Morrison……..Just because they haven’t been around for many years, and their not eating up a large chunk of our payroll, doesn’t mean they’re bad goaltending………….Look at the stats. We are doing better than the Leafs…………There’s more to having a good goaltender than having a “BIG NAME”.

  19. JannettyTheRocker says:

Both of you whiners shut up. You’re giving me a headache…………BOO HOO HOO, somebody doesn’t like the Leafs, so we need to cry about it. Get over yourselves, the LEAFS SUCK.

  20. JannettyTheRocker says:

What? The Leafs are taking a run at getting Rob Blake? That’s news……………..I thought you said (many times) that it was a sure thing that the Leafs were getting Blake and Boughner in a trade, and it’s a sure thing because you saw it on Eklunds site……………..You’re a fool.

  21. Adam_0486 says:

Wheres my share? 6M increase screw u i bought 2 jerseys and a NHL T-shirt this year wheres my cut of the profits? Cap sucks, unless its a soft cap at 45M with a hard cap at 55M, and some revenue sharing for teams that have caps over the soft cap.

  22. Turok39 says:

And so do you woman, but I won’t tell.
