It is very apparent that you misunderstood whatever source you read.

Neither Malone, nor Orpik accepted their qualifying offers. If they had, they would not have been able to sign up for arbitration (which they both did).

As of this morning (7/17) Ryan Malone and Brooks Orpik are both going to arbitration. Ray Shero has mentioned that he considers the sticking points between Orpik’s agent and him to be small and he feels they are close to signing. No word on Malone. Also, going to arbitration does not guarantee a signing any longer. Teams have the option to walk away from the arbitrator’s decision if the amount is $1,042,173 or more. If the team refused the decision, the player immediately becomes an unrestricted free-agent.

To top if off, although they did not file for arbitration, both Fleury and Armstrong have refused their qualifying offers. They however cannot become unrestricted free agents in any way, unlike Malone and Orpik. Armstrong and Fleury have to sign a contract with the Penguins, or sit the year out. In the meantime, their rights belong to the Penguins because they were tendered qualifying offers.

Staying in that line, Nordgren was qualified by the Penguins, but he also refused the contract and signed with a team in Europe. This means that the Penguins still keep his rights, and they are the only team he can play for in the NHL, until those rights expire.

Also, there is no ink in the official website (or any other respectable media outlet) as to what you mentioned, unlike you stated in a different post. Please verify your sources.

Washington is picking up 4 million $$$ of Jagr’s contract… Even so, the $$$ you listed the Rangers could spend and still stay under the cap seems too low. Maybe your not taking into account the “average” salary throughout the players contract years by confusing it with the “2006-2007” listed salary??? Anyway what ever you did, you got the Rangers completely wrong.

do you two need a room? I know a nice Bed and Breakfast you can try.

  4. mrleaffan says:

don’t you think maybe he post wasn’t just for you; but other people wondering about the discepency?

On a side note – too bad there isn’t a reliable source for actually against the cap numbers.

  5. cecilturtle says:

The Rangers it seems signed Ortmeyer and his salary is listed on nhlpa.com at $551,760.oo.

Have some patience with Gonchar. He was terrible, had to endure massive changes in the roster throughout (including mediocre-at-best partners at times), learn a completely new system that the Pens played, then changed coaches, then a tweak in the system, and then finally picked it up. He is always been known as a slow starter in every season, so maybe all those changes just compounded and hence he had such a hard time. Now you are right that at $5M/year he is not worth what he did, but his salary was of $3.5M last year so it wasn’t as bad.

He certainly needs to pick it up, however. In my view, if by the end of November he is not at the same level he finished last year, so that he can improve even more, then you can start labelling him a complete bust.

  7. cwthrash says:

Atlanta’s actual cap number is about $1M below the max, due to the all the goalie injuries and for the bonuses that Bondra got last year.

They plan to spend around $40M, giving them a $3M buffer for injuries and some extra room to get another player if needed later on.

And if I read all the contracts right, their cap number thus far is right around $35 for 19 players (Kapanen and Lehtonen yet to sign). With the salaries of a 22nd and/or 23rd player on their roster at any given time, that should put the Thrashers right near the $40M mark.

  8. BWbullies says:

Forsberg is not on the IR until JAN. He will be back by the beginning of the season. He is not having the other foot operated on.

    Sorry bad typos.

We don’t know that for sure yet.

  11. dermeister says:

Sure the Bruins are 10 Milions away from the cap, but Zhamnov’s 4,1 millions salary must be taken out of this. The Bruins wanted to buy him out but they were told they couldn’t because he was still on the injury list. So, my guest is that as soon he is healthy, he’s gone…

That leaves 14 millions (or so) to sign Bergeron, Boyes and some other second role players or prospects. Plenty of money for the Bs.

  12. ObjectiveImpartiaL says:

I think TSN takes what bonuses will pay them and bonuses have to be included with the cap. Am I way out on this one? Very well may not be
