I think TSN takes what bonuses will pay them and bonuses have to be included with the cap. Am I way out on this one? Very well may not be

Sure the Bruins are 10 Milions away from the cap, but Zhamnov's 4,1 millions salary must be taken out of this. The Bruins wanted to buy him out but they were told they couldn't because he was still on the injury list. So, my guest is that as soon he is healthy, he's gone...

That leaves 14 millions (or so) to sign Bergeron, Boyes and some other second role players or prospects. Plenty of money for the Bs.

Forsberg is not on the IR until JAN. He will be back by the beginning of the season. He is not having the other foot operated on.

Atlanta's actual cap number is about $1M below the max, due to the all the goalie injuries and for the bonuses that Bondra got last year.

They plan to spend around $40M, giving them a $3M buffer for injuries and some extra room to get another player if needed later on.

And if I read all the contracts right, their cap number thus far is right around $35 for 19 players (Kapanen and Lehtonen yet to sign). With the salaries of a 22nd and/or 23rd player on their roster at any given time, that should put the Thrashers right near the $40M mark.

Have some patience with Gonchar. He was terrible, had to endure massive changes in the roster throughout (including mediocre-at-best partners at times), learn a completely new system that the Pens played, then changed coaches, then a tweak in the system, and then finally picked it up. He is always been known as a slow starter in every season, so maybe all those changes just compounded and hence he had such a hard time. Now you are right that at $5M/year he is not worth what he did, but his salary was of $3.5M last year so it wasn't as bad.

He certainly needs to pick it up, however. In my view, if by the end of November he is not at the same level he finished last year, so that he can improve even more, then you can start labelling him a complete bust.

The Rangers it seems signed Ortmeyer and his salary is listed on nhlpa.com at $551,760.oo.
