Sami Kapanen to stay in Philly

The Phildelphia Flyers have signed Sami Kapanen to a 2-year contract extension. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“I am very happy to stay here,” said Kapanen. “It’s something that we were able to get done in a short period of time. I believe that this team is rebuilding in the right direction and we will be back contending next year. My family loves it here, so it was an easy decision to stay here.”

Kapanen, 33, has recorded seven goals and seven assists for 14 points and 14 penalty minutes in 51 games for the Flyers this season.

hmmmm…? are they really singing Kapanen so he can stay in Philly, or are they trying to sweeten the deal with another team who is not looking for a rental? …

what happened to this guy?  he was a consistant 20+ goal scorer for 5 years and since then he has fallen off the map.  it's not like he got old, he's only 33

I hope he does get traded a new home would do him well

He rarely plays on the top two lines.  And he was a shut down forward for Hitch***** for the past 2 years.

The guy can score, but they need to put him on the 1st or 2nd line.

I agree with Ach…In my opinion he has turned out to be a really good 2-way forward for a team
that needs all the help inside their zone as they can get. I also think that when he was bumped back to the blue line during the playoffs, he was one of the top dogs back on an injury ravaged corps.

Haha yeah, i've never seen a player step in and play defence that well before.  Kapanen plays great on the point.  Remember when he was knocked out on the ice, have you ever seen a player defy a hit like that before?  He stood up and tried to skate to the bench, even started skateing the wrong way at one point, and followed the calls from his teamates to the bench with a little hook from primeau to get him on the bench.

Anyone else pissed off that VERSUS didn't show Keith's retirement ceremony?

If it was a detroit player, it would have been nationally televised.
