Samsonov to have wrist surgery

Bostonbruins.com is reporting that bruins forward Sergei Samsonov will have wrist surgery on Christmas Eve, and will be out for approximately 3 monthsThis is obviously a huge blow for the Bruins, so I’d look for them to wanna move McLaren much quicker to get some more help out front.

Well, Bruins have been on a pretty bad slump defensively and offensively.

O’Connel now realizes that his team definitely needs a change. However, he could still have the confidence that this is just an estimated 10 game slump and that they will pick it up again.

If not, then the tables turn.

If the Bruins keep slumping now, then O’Connell will realize that the offers for McLearen actually do make sense.

This is a plus for the teams interested in Kyle as well. O’Connell saw his team doing just fine and he was waiting for a struggling team to panic and offer too much for McLaren, an offer that he cannot decline.

Now, however, the tables have turned and teams can ease down on their offers and let O’Connell get frustrated.

I did doubt Boston would be a first place team this season, and i don’t think they will be such a force either. Devils, Flyers, and especially the Senatos (i did say they would be the top team in the East before season started).

As for Samsonov, it’s a very bad injury. Injuring a wrist is almost as bad as having a severe ACL injury. Even when Samsonov is back, his wrist will prevent him from being a threat.

  2. NewYorkRangers says:

Thank god I didn’t draft him in my fantasy league. If I did, he would join my graveyard, that has Modano, Dahlen, Richter, and Bure. Not to mention that I had Allison on there for most of the season, and Fleury suspended. Ok, I’m done bitching.

I hope Samsonov comes back soon, he’s always fun to watch, and very exciting.

  3. LEON says:

This will certainly be a blow to the Bruins offense and there’s no question, they need to get another scoring threat. However, the Bruins have played without Samsonov for all but 7 games and still have managed to play above expectations. The fact that, Samsonov was off to a great start (7gp 4g 9pts) shows just what might have been a very productive season. The Bruins will still perform above expectations bacause of the fact that most predicted the B’s to be in the basement this season, but where are they now? They have slumped lately, but every team in every leaugue goes through their ups and downs and the B’s will rebound. The need for another forward capable of scoring goals is now a pressing one. Unfortunately McLaren alone isn’t enough bait to land the likes of Brad Richards, Brad Isbister, or Alex Tanguay.

My fantasy team was plagued with injuries as well.

    I had to drop Morozov, i kept Bure…but damn…my team’s hurting!!!

  5. NewYorkRangers says:

    I feel your pain.

  6. mikster says:

    Isbister for McLaren…..

About the same, maybe Isbister more significant because he would score with Joe Thornton, but he is nothing without a good player on his line.

  11. Rico71 says:

Seems to me this year wrist injuries are rampant.

Pronger, Samsonov, Souray and some other notables are out with wrist injuries.

This might have something to do with the shortened gloves the player stupidly prefer to wear. Then they get slashed or bang into someone and they have no wrist support.

    Ouch.

With Samsonov out…again…they will definitively trade McLaren. They need some offense help to support Thornton and Murray. Nobody else is ery threathening on the roster. Stumpy and Lapointe are streaky and they don’t have that much offensive support from the defense either.

The Isles are hurting on defense and so are the Penguins. Isles might offer Isbister and another forward, while Pitts…have shit to offer. This team lacks good young prospects and they have no depth. I see McLaren going to the Isles. Milbury’s got to pull the trigger soon…he must be twitching.
