Various reports are saying that the Anaheim Mighty Ducks have placed Mathieu Schneider on waivers.
I can't believe this is happening to Burke again. With losing Bryz for nothing last year, now Matty Schneider. It would actually be really funny if does end up being Phoenix who picks up Shneider and ends up with both.
I guess Schneider being placed on waivers and Glen Murray being bought out makes that old rumour from before actually seem like it could have happened. And so many people were saying it was stupid because "Schneider has so much more value"….
I think a lot of teams would pick him up on that salary. Montreal comes to mind. They'd have to move someone, but they seemed to highly covenant him. Also the Ducks aren't mighty anymore, in more ways than one, lol.
Tampa's got over $3 million in cap space and with a crowded roster up front. Once they send a couple guys down and cut their roster down to the required 23 guys, they could easily fit Schneider in, and I think he'd really help them.
I'm not sure about Tampa…they already have a bunch of offensemen with Meszaros, Carle, Hutchinson and even Ranger able to contribute to offense. O'Brien and Lundin are their only stay-at-home…and they're both under 25….what they need is a defensive physical minded d-man. I'd try Marek Malik for Tampa. Schneider would be good on Phoenix, or LA.
If he goes to re-entry (I would be suprised if LA does not pick him up), Montreal should scoop his 2.75 salary.
Trade Dandenault and Bouillion for what ever we can get.
I don't know, they don't have a real experienced, veteran presence back there. Schneider would be a great fit with Tampa I think. Hutchinson and Paul Ranger aren't anything special. I would even give Matty the A if he went to Tampa so he could kind of captain the back end.
you're making a mistake underestimating Paul Ranger. He's the best d-man of this corp. No kidding. The kid is great.
I agree Schneider could captain this young d-corp, he could provide some good help. A veteran presence is needed back there, but I think this veteran should be a defensive-minded d-man. Maybe Bret Hedican? he's still a fast skater. Or maybe even Darius Kasparaitis?? They could very well use his physical kind of play.
On the other hand, Phoenix lacks a puck-mover since Ballard and Boynton left for Florida. the BB's aren't exactly 50 points guys, but they still provided some nice offensive abilities. Now, all the burden is left of Jovanovski. Morris and Michalek can chip in occasionnaly, but they're more stay-at-home guys. Same for Sauer and Yandle. I think Schneider could really thrive in Phoenix alongside Jovo on the PP.
but hey….that's only my opinion, and yours is as good as mine lol.
Bryzgalov had tons of value too but when teams know that Burke HAS to unload him then his value drops. Teams know they can have him for free so unless they feel someone will probably pick him ahead of them in waivers, they wont be willing to trade.
Schneider would actually be a good fit in Phoenix since they lost 2 Dmen to Florida and they have plenty of cap space. Another possibility would be LA who still need to attain the cap floor and are short by at least 8 million.
If LA was wise they would pick him up right now with the full cap hit in order to get closer to the cap floor which they are still very far away from. Even with O'Sullivan signing they will still be significantly under the cap floor.
Oh boy, Kramer's got an idea to fix the Leafs!!!!
When McCabe was with the Leafs, I wanted him to get traded.
Now that he's traded, I want the Leafs to get him back, cuz I think the trade was a big mistake.
How about this move, done with a touch of Kramer finesse. The Leafs should pick Schneider up off waivers, then trade him to Florida with Van Ryan and get McCabe back.
This way Florida gets 2 defencemen, the Leafs get McCabe back, and everybody's happy!!!!!
Smart move or what?
Agrred. Thats why I would be surpised if he hits reentry.
The value of a puck moving D-man as skilled as Schneider he will no doubt get picked up by one of the teams that need to get over the floor. I could see CBJ picking him up to see if they can make a push for the playoffs, or if they are not in contention trade him to a team at the deadline.
I do believe there is a rule that a player claimed on waivers cannot be traded for one season without all the other teams below them in the waiver order being able to claim him off waivers first.
This is Burke's own doing, why are you feeling sorry for him?
Ya you might be right about Ranger, a couple of buddies were saying the same thing. Kasparitus could be a good pickup actually, i dont know about his leadership though, but if he's a good guy, they should consider him.
Schneider's great grand-uncle made the world's first wiener.
I didn't think of that. They keep making all the rules so complicated.
Schneider's gonna get traded to Chicago cuz that's where the main Schneider distribution center is located. The link below gives the details.
And not just sausages, they also got beef jerky, beef smokies, Jalapeno smokies, franks, Krakow, and baloney.
Yeah…lol… I just remember it from when Minnesota claimed Jason Wiemer off NYI back in 03 and they were thinking about trading him because they were finishing out of the playoffs, but there was no point in doing it because another team wanted to claim him also so they would have got nothing in return…
What? that made no sense..
its because of the cap.
think of all the really good football players in the nfl. that get cut every week and every year.
I'm a little surprised that Schneider hasn't been picked up yet. For a defenceman who got almost 40 points last year (more than Redden) and costs less than Redden, what's the hold-up here? This guy can be a missing piece for a lot of teams. Here is a list of teams who have cap room, narrowed by whom I think should actually pick him up and why:Colorado – although its not like them to push themselves to the cap, he would be useful to them since they want to make the most of their last few Sakic years. Minnesota – They lost a LOT of scoring power with Demitra and Rolston, I can't see how Schneider would hurt in regaining a bit of that. Although he may not fit their 'defence first' style. Carolina – I still don't buy their power play, Corvo/Schneider sounds like a good solution Columbus – Keep adding those pieces and make that push! Their D is junk…I'm not even sure who is SUPPOSED to man that power play with Hainsey gone…Commodore? Phoenix – This is the year, Doan/Jokinen/Mueller on the power play with Schneider and Jovo on point. Make it happen. Atlanta – Depends on what they want out of this season: Win now, or Win Later. But I would say they need to make the best of the last Kovalchuk years and go now. This is a good way to force a big name to come to Atlanta without giving up anything, what's the freaking hold-up?!
Minnesota had one of the first cracks at him because they were low in the standings. So they were thinking about trading him, however the way the NHL rules are/were in that CBA stated that he would have had to be placed on waivers again being available to all the teams that were lower in priority to Minnesota at the time they picked him up. That was basically most of the league that season.
In 2003? Minnesota wasn't low in the standings they placed 6th.
03/04 season they finished last in their division.
Wiemer was claimed in 03 on Nov 13th.
