Schneider to Red Wings

Red Wings acquired LA Kings defenseman Metthieu Schneider for Sean Avery and Maxim Kuznetsov, a 2003 1st rounder draft pick and 2nd round pick in 2004.

My take: Horrible trade for the Red Wings, horrible. I wouldn’t even trade a 1st round pick for Schneider.

That’s an interesting comparison. I never really looked at it like that.

Ok, at first I looked at this and about puked. But really looking at it, we just added an all star defenseman who is something like 7th in defensive scoring and Even on a mediocre team, who fits in perfectly w/ the Wings style, w/o really taking anyone off our active roster (Kuznetsov, but Schneider would have just taken his place anyway, and Fischer would push him back another notch).

Losing Avery hurts, and the 1st round draft pick, but really, we aren’t going to die for losing either of those, and w/ Schneider, our defense all the sudden looks a lot better than it did a month ago.

Think about it. Lidstrom, Schneider, Chelios, Fischer, Woolley, Dandenault. That’s last year’s defense w/ an All Star replacing Olausson and an upgrade over Duschense. And Bykov waiting in replacement is a very competant NHL defenseman as well.

So a steep price, but for the best player on the market (Amonte has 36 points, Nolan 42 points, Schneider 43)? Eh, not that bad.

Of course, the Kings have lost their #2 and #3 scorers in Schneider and Smolinski now. Don’t know how they’ll cope. :p

as a kings fan i don’t think the wings gave up crap. yeah their defense is getting older but with the young guns producing i don’ think they will be missing anything in the draft. who is to say they won’t make a trade to re-obtain a first round pick.

i’ve watched schneider since he came to the kings and this has been his best thus far. he has a GREAT shot from the point, great passing out of his zone and has been playing with a bit of a chip on his shoulder this year. look at his point total this year, good fit for detroit.

but first round of beers goes for davey taylor. i think the kings now have 3 first round picks in the draft, nice! avery will fit in nice since it seems lappy has been fading and hasn’t been the same since he got hurt.

    good all around!

Avery would never play a minute in the playoffs – he takes too many penalties.

Kuznetsoz is lost on ‘D’. The #1 and #2 was too much to pay. Perhaps one of those draft picks, but not both. Let’s check back after the playoffs on this one.

But … he can’t play defense! He just runs around being big. He has good potential, I’ll give you that.

I’ll be back to hear you say that again after Cujo get’s MVP of the playoffs.

    Amen brother!

Some of these folks need to think seriously about choosing another sport to follow, some of them truly have no clue!

Have fun watching the onslaught of odd man rushes; I will… 😉

It seems that some Wings fans are trying to justify the trade by saying how Avery will never be any good, and Kuznetsov is no good; just a week ago, I’m sure that they would have mentioned how great Avery is for the team, and how Kuznetsov’s size gives him good potential. I think that the wings over paid … but they will see an immediate improvement for sure. I’m not too upset about Avery and Kuznetsov … I hate giving away those picks though.
