The Foster Hewitt Media Gondola at the Air Canada Centre always is a popular spot for league scouts but there were more than usual on hand on Monday night. All in all, 17 teams were represented including scouts from the Bruins, Stars, Panthers, Blue Jackets, Oilers, Canucks, Islanders, Jets, Ducks, Lightning, Coyotes, Rangers, Predators, Capitals, Hurricanes, Canadiens and Senators. The Leafs are said to be trying to peddle some of their depth on the blue line in exchange for some help up front. Not connecting any dots here but … Upon hearing a TV report suggesting Toronto might be interested in veteran Dallas forward Brendan Morrow, a Leaf executive laughed, then said: “Where do (they) get this stuff?”

Brendan Morrow would be so *****ing SWEEEEET in a Leafs jersey. I would immediately buy a Morrow jersey.

Plus, Morrow will actually give our PP a net presence that it sorely lacks. I've really liked the way Bozak's played this year but I can't stand watching him stand off to the side of a goalie on the PP anymore, being boxed out by the defenseman. We need a hard nosed digger like Morrow who has the strength to stay in front, battle and get a screen, but also has the skill to make great deflections and bury rebounds.

  2. mojo19 says:

    Bozak and Kadri for Morrow?

    Morrow – Grabovski – Kulemin
    Lupul – Lombardi – Kessel
    MacArthur – Connolly – Frattin/Armstrong
    Brown – Steckel – Dupuis/Armstrong

That's a pretty deep team. Allows for us to have 3 legit lines that can score, and a good group of role players to fill out the roster.

  3. mojo19 says:

Also, the Grabo-Kuley line really showed what they can do last night, just didn't finish. MacArthur got robbed by Giggy a couple times, Kuley rang one off the post, Grabovski made 3 or 4 really great passes, and that line was all over the Avs net. It was just a matter of time before they scored and they were rewarded with the tying goal. Unbelievable play to knock the puck out of the air by Kulemin, then the one handed pass, drives to the net and finally the quick shift to the back hand for the goal.

    You gotta love Kulemin.

  4. MystifoLeafs says:

I know, When I read the idea of a line like….

Morrow – Grabovski – Kulemin I had to wonder how could the apposing team knock that line off the puck I mean Kulemin and Grabovski can protect the puck really well but you add someone like Morrow with them there is no knocking them off the puck or pushing them around. Just amazing.
  5. mapleleafsfan says:

Apparently Burke is looking into rene bourque.. Never really seem him play but he's gritty.. Not Morrow by any means but he's younger and has decent size.. Anyone who knows more about him know what the expected return  would likely be?

  6. mojo19 says:

I have no clue. I know Bourque got off to a really great start last season but then he really cooled off. He could be an interesting option, but I'm not sure where he'd fit depth-wise on our team. I think he'd have to play on the 3rd line. But he would be an interesting addition for sure.

  7. mapleleafsfan says:

Yea, I wouldn't wanna give up too much seeing as where he'd fit in but he'd be an interesting addition. Maybe switch him and macarthur around if macarthur isn't putting them in. Any extra scoring is good.

    Lupul – Connolly/Bozak – Kessel
    Bourque – Grabo – kulemin
    Macathur – Lombardi – Armstrong
Rosehill (or whoever) – Steckel – Brown
Pretty good depth, bourque almost hit 30 two years in a row.. I imagine Kulemin and bourque on a line could be pretty deadly… Again though I don't know much about him and don't know what we'd have to give up to get him.
  8. mojo19 says:

Ya, that wouldn't be bad. Plus he's still got 4 years left on his contract at $3.33 million. Pretty reasonable contract for a guy with really solid point and goal totals for the last three seasons. Plus he's 6'2" has pretty good size.

I would not complain about picking up this guy if the price was reasonably low.
  9. mapleleafsfan says:

Can josh or alberta give an idea of what the asking price would likely be?

  10. mojo19 says:

I think it would be tough to answer that question until we know the direction Calgary is headed. They have the following players eligible for UFA status after this season:

    Olli Jokinen
    Nik Hagman
    Lee Stempniak
    David Moss
    Brendan Morrison
    Tom Kostopolous
    Ratis Ivanins
    Tim Jackman

    Cory Sarich
    Scott Hannan
    Derick Smith

Plus two other depth forwards. The Flames look to shed about $19 million in salary (minus whatever they pay any of these guys to re-sign them). Either way there is some flexibility coming Calgary's way, and a lot of hard decisions to make. This makes it tough to gage what Feaster might be looking for if he is looking to move out Bourque.

According to Dreger (via twitter) Feaster might want some immediate help back, so it could be a swap for someone on an NHL roster, or at least someone in the minors who would be considered "NHL ready".

    Tonight: Leafs VS Jets

    Leafs 5
    Jets 0

Welcome to Toronto. I think the Leafs will really rebound after having their shakiest game of the year so far, they will be on a mission. Winnipeg on the other hand finally got their first win of the year in a gritty effort against Pittsburgh, and I think they'll be missing that hunger. Also the ACC is looking like a tough building to play in so far this season, and I don't see the Jets as a team thats going to win many games this year anyways.

    Boom: 5-0 Leafs! GLG!

  12. leafmeister says:

    Kessel scores all 5

  13. dumbassdoorman says:

Do you like the idea of starting Reimer tonight and playing Gus tomorrow? I am curious to see what Gardiner does with more ice time, as Wilson says he will get it. Also I wonder who sits, will it be Schenn or Franson? I think this is a must win game, beatable tems are the ones that have cost them ooints more often then not last few years. If they wanna make the playoffs they need to win these types of games.

    Newsflash Announcement

Leafy and Kramer have moved to other hockey forums.

Ideally websites should screen out psychologically deranged bloggers like The_Word (aka Saddam Hussein's twin brother who hates people with varying opinions).

Haters like The_Word should be screened out aggressively. They have no business in a serious respectful hockey forum.

    Good luck.

  15. mojo19 says:

Franson is supposed to sit for Gardiner I hear.

And ya, I like going with Reimer, good Manitoba boy, let him play against the Jets. Plus Gustavsson is historically very good against Boston for whatever reason (whether you believe in that kind of thing or not is up to you).

Plus I like getting Gardiner in tonight, because you tommorow they're going to dress the big man Cody Franson, maybe even take out a guy like Frattin, Dupuis, or Brown in favour of Orr or Rosehill.

  16. mojo19 says:

Leafy I can understand moving, but why Kramer? He's never had any problems with anyone…

Also, the_word knows his hockey, although sometimes he can be a bit aggressive, especially if you have a very different opinion, I definitely respect that he speaks his mind and doesn't sugar coat/doesn't always say the politically correct thing. His opinions, right or wrong, are often very valid, and hes offered a unique point of view throughout the years. He's had riffs with many HTR regulars including ReinJosh, but everything is patched up in time.

Honestly I think Leafy and the Word both got a bit out of hand, it was pretty annoying. Leaf on Leaf hate is never cool. Too bad. Leafy should come back on here, which I'm sure he will once he gets bored with other hockey forums. We've all checked out other shitty sites, I believe the number of hockey knowledgeable members is extremely high on HTR which is what brings us back.

Besides, if you can't get along with one guy on an internet site so you leave then you're being a baby. I've been on here since '03 and I've had my share of mojo-haters to deal with (Bru-Magnus used to write "mojo19 is an idiot" after every single one of my posts) but you don't worry about shit like that.

  17. mojo19 says:

Having said all that, if like 2 out of the hanful of solid regulars left from this site were to leave it would be dead.

I think 5 years ago this site was a way hotter site than it is now. I remember I wrote an article on here a few years back, and people that I knew were like "hey are you mojo19 on HTR?" because my views in the article echoed some conversations I've had in real life, and my buddies recognized the author as being me. haha

  18. senators_choke says:

You're a good guy Mojo as are the other Leaf and non-Leaf fans here.

But it's not a question of who's right and who's wrong. Everyone should be entitled to their free opinion, without having some deranged idiot doing a "Pearl Harbor" attack…a totally unprovoked attack….and it wasn't the first time.

No way, I'm not giving idiots like that the satisfaction. If low-lifes are let in here constantly, then I'm leaving.

I've got your MSN. I'll message you from time to time, or send me a message also. Take care.

  19. blaze says:

    leafy = kramer
and this one is more of gut call but Im sure b_bruins metamorphisized into Boston_Bruins while were outing people

  20. blaze says:

Drop Dupuis sub in Orr. Those Bruins try to pull that crap like last night against the buds then they're gunna have to deal with Colton. Hell dress Rosehill too.

  21. mapleleafsfan says:

This is so frustrating to watch…

Komi and Gardiner might be the worst pairing ever and they are on the ice the entire game. Wilson or komi, get rid of one.
  22. leafmeister says:

Alright, time for everyone to rate the chances that Kessel ISNT on steroids…

  23. MystifoLeafs says:

I am honestly putting my money on the fact he has a top 6 winger with him who can shoot and pass. I mean a healthy Lupul with a full off season of working out and training really makes a difference.

Not many people notice but Lupul has never been a bad player. He just has had multiple injuries that hindered him but he still seems to produce at a okay level. It is not crazy to expect if he continues to play with Kessel to finally hit the 25 goal plateau. Elite players make the players around them better.
  24. reinjosh says:

Don't leave man! Your one of the regulars and it always sucks having one of them leave. Plus your taking kramer which sucks (although now that I know who it is, he won't be the same).

  25. reinjosh says:

Were it me, I'd push for a 1st and a decent prospect. He's signed to a decently good deal and is the perfect blend of grit and scoring. He just is streaky. I'm not sure how many teams would give that up though. I would think he'd go for the same amount Ruutu goes for. Maybe a 2nd and a good prospect?

  26. supermapleleafs says:

lets put franson and Gardiner together and sit Komi. something has to be down with Komi for sure cant have that all season long. wasnt very happy with the play of Lombardi either but its still early in the season time to come around is now thou along with schenn but hes gonna come around needs to get on a roll real soon. But the play of kessel hes a beast for sure racking up the points now hes got lupul along for the ride if those two keep clicking its gonna be a fun season BOOYA!!!!!

  27. TheLeafNation91 says:

    Dear leafy,

Please don't quit HTR or I will be stuck with crazy lunatics like mojo and reinjosh.

  28. senators_choke says:

Thanks pal. But mojo and reinjosh are alright. They're the optimists, whereas the two of us are the realists. You need a bit of both.

    I'll be around.

  29. senators_choke says:

Thanks bud. I'll be around reading every so often, there are knowledgeable leaf fans here.

  30. supermapleleafs says:

  31. reinjosh says:

Outside of Jokinen, I don't think there's really anyone that the Flames would keep. Maybe Stempniak if he plays well enough.

I think Feaster is looking to do what Montreal did a few years ago. Clear a bunch of salary and go crazy on July 1st.
At the very least I hope the team tanks, he moves some players for picks and prospects and then does that. At least it would augment the prospect board a little. I think all us Flame's fans are not going to get the rebuild we want.
  32. dumbassdoorman says:

I can honestly say sometimes it is good to go away for a bit, even though I usually read anyways, just not comment. I enjoy most everyones opinion even if I don't agree and sometimes just shke my head and laugh, but it is all in all a good group to read, or comment about. Though i have noticed a few guys not around.

  33. reinjosh says:

Totally agree with you. 41 points during the entire time Lupul's been here. It's not a coincidence.

  34. mojo19 says:

leafy = kramer. Woah…. never would've guessed that.

  35. mojo19 says:

back in the day we had 92-93 and nords, and BLUE_AND_WHITE they were all classy Leaf fans.

  36. mojo19 says:

Lupul is a top end support winger. He's not the guy to carry a line, but, I like the Mike Knuble comparison. Knuble played top line with Thornton and Murray in Boston, with Forsberg and Gagne in Philly, and with Ovechkin and Backstrom in Washington. He's never an All-Star but he compliments playing with them perfectly. Lupul is a catalyst.

  37. mojo19 says:

2nd and a prospect would be good, ya. Although I hear Calgary wants someone who can play right now.

I think they would settle for a younger player (Bourque is 30) who is earning less $$ and still maybe has a little bit of upside, but can play right now.

  38. mojo19 says:

Ya Komisarek had just a brutal game. I imagine they'll have him dressed against Boston though. But definitely, I would take out Komisarek in an upcoming game, maybe this weekend. Komi has been the weakest of 7 d-men this year.

    go with:

    Phaneuf – Gunner
    Liles – Schenn
    Gardiner – Franson

  39. mojo19 says:

We're the realists, you guys are the neggies. 😉

  40. senators_choke says:

Thin ice Mojo. Thin Ice. If you're not an optimist, then the word 'optimist' has no meaning.

  41. senators_choke says:

B&W was very similar to myself. Call out both the positive and the negative. We called things as we saw them.

92-93 and Nords were smart, but more negative than B&W and me.

  42. mojo19 says:

Haha, I recognize that I am an optimist but you two are definitely too negative sometimes. But like you said, its good to have a mix of both sides of the equation.

  43. senators_choke says:

I'm positive when it's justified, negative when it's justified.

My posts in the last 5 years speak for themselves. I've been BOTH positive and negative where I needed to be.

Look at the Leafs in recent years. No playoffs since 2004!!! It's now 7 years and counting. There SHOULD be more negative than positive given their recent history.

Obviously this team has been mis-managed in recent years, and you've got to acknowledge that…it is a fact. How can any fair person argue with that?

Now more recently, Burke has done a fairly good job…and I've stated that time and again.
