SENATORS EXPECT HEATLEY TRADE TALK TO CONTINUE AT DRAFT

TSN.ca reports that

There are teams calling the Ottawa Senators about forward Dany Heatley and general manager Bryan Murray expects talks to continue at the NHL Entry Draft this weekend. He told reporters that there is one team getting close to an offer that would interest him, but it is not where he wants it to be at this point. While Murray knows it would be difficult to get full value for his sniper, he says the cost to another team will still be steep.“If they want to add this kind of talent to their team they know there is a price,” explained Murray on Monday.

“I’m going to try and get the best player back that I can and add some parts to it.”

There are factors working against Murray, including the 5-years ($7.5 million per season cap hit) left on Heatley’s contract and the $4 million bonus due to be paid out on July 1. Murray hinted the team wants any potential deal done before that bonus is due.

Could the Vancouver sign&trade the Sedins for Heatley (and Fisher)? Or would that be too much for Vancouver to give up seeing that they want to win Stanley next year.

    OR

3 way trade seeing the twins (signing rights) goto Atlanta for Atlantas 1st and Todd white (and/or a 3rd & fouth rounder) then the Canucks send Atlantas 1st and Salo or Ohlund for Heatley??? (is that enough?)

    JUST AN IDEA….OK ….

If you have another scenerio with Vancouver getting Heatley lets see it!

If Vancouver could trade the twins' rights to Atlanta for just the 1st round pick, I would take that deal and run.  Vancouver should then keep the 4th overall pick, and sign Gaborik to a less expensive contract than Heatley's.  The Canuck's then draft Schenn, and have a one two punch of Hodgson and Schenn.  Sure they won't produce right away, but in a few years will be scary.  Until then Demitra can center the first line with Gaborik on his wing.

Vancouver could also trade Ohlund's rights to Ottawa for a 3rd / 4th round pick, and add another prospect to a weak system.

i see him going to Edmonton.
    deal like this
    to edmonton : heatly
to ottawa: choice of souray or visnovsky and the 10th pick and lets say nilson.

the oilers would then have enough to sign jaybo too

  5. jonnygf40 says:

Don't forget they still need a starting goalie.

  6. broc says:

    Are you crazy?

Atlanta- a team in serious rebuilding mode- is not going to trade the 4th overall pick for negotiation rights for ANYone.

    you're in crazytown man..

  7. VCRMillionaires says:

Don't forget… Edmonton is not on Heatleys List

  8. VCRMillionaires says:

I guess Vancouver is out for Heatley seeing that Gaborik moved to town…

  9. VCRMillionaires says:

"out" as in no longer going for

  10. jonnygf40 says:

That is why I said they should take that deal and run.
