Senators looking for final piece of the puzzle

The Ottawa Senators might well have one more trade up their sleeves as they look to get their roster set for the 2014-2015 NHL campaign.
The franchise has already been relatively busy over the off-season so far, with the team eager to get their business done early so the side can be somewhat settled going into the next season.
After what was admittedly a disappointing campaign last term, as they failed to live up to their billing, having been tipped before the season to secure a play-off place.
Sadly there was no play-off excitement to be had for the team’s fans, as they were eliminated of having any chance of claiming the title on April 8 and they had to settle for fifth place in the Atlantic Division standings.
It’s a tough time for the franchise with the news general manager Bryan Murray has been diagnosed with cancer and at present his participation next season is not guaranteed while he continues his treatment.
But the tactician has already been looking ahead to the next NHL campaign and will certainly be imparting his wishes onto the likes of assistant general managers Pierre Dorion and Randy Lee, who will be periodically filling the void in Murray’s absence.
Murray has already overseen the signing of experienced center David Legwand on a two-year deal which is believed to be worth in the region of $6 million.
The former Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators man bagged himself 51 points in 83 outings last term and will add plenty of experience to the Senators roster and clearly Murray is a big fan, describing Legwand as “good faceoff man”.

However Murray has not ruled out the possibility of another fresh face coming to Ottawa, saying “we probably will do something else,” before the start of next season.
The Senators chief does appear to be happy with the young players coming through the ranks at the franchise but don’t be surprised to see and another deal completed before they face the New York Islanders in their opening game of the campaign on September 22 in the Big Apple.
