Senators GM Bryan Murray says moving players by trade deadline going to be difficult
The problem is there’s more buyers than sellers. Only the Florida Panthers and Colorado Avalanche are out of the playoff race. There’s other teams hanging on, but they might not be willing to accept the reality they won’t make it.
“I don’t know how you ever get a scorer in the NHL anymore, but if you can get a top-six forward it’s always the objective,” said Murray. “I haven’t identified anybody who is going to be moved.
“There’s only a couple of teams that are going to say today that they’re probably going to trade a couple of kids. (Teams) want to keep the best part of their core and then try to add to it as well. It certainly makes it difficult to make trades.”
A position of strength Murray can deal from is goaltending, but he sounds reticent to give up Craig Anderson, Robin Lehner or Ben Bishop before the deadline. It should be noted Anderson is still sidelined with an ankle injury.
“I’m not sure. That’s the $64-million question, right now. We know (Anderson’s) going to be back shortly,” said Murray. “Do you do something or do you wait right until the last minute to decide, or do you wait until the summer?
