Senators' Michalek could be done for season

The Ottawa Senators are crossing their fingers that Milan Michalek could be back from his injured left knee in time for the playoffs.

In a best case scenario, the power winger, who is tied with Mike Fisher with a team-high 22 goals, could be back in the lineup in 10 days. In the worst case, Michalek’s season could be over and surgery could be necessary.

Michalek suffered the injury when he hit the post, charging to the net in a 6-3 loss to the Atlanta Thrashers last Thursday.

Team doctors are hoping that the knee responds well to treatment and rest.

“He’s a good player for us, he kills a lot of penalties, a big, strong aggressive forward and it just gives an opportunity to someone else and a perfect example is Peter Regin stepped up and played a very good game for us (in Monday’s 2-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens,” coach Cory Clouston said before Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Clouston says Michalek was doing exactly what he should have been doing on the play which led to his injury.

Ouch. The Sens didnt have much of a chance before. If Michalek is done for the season, they are sunk. Unless Kovalev can raise his game like 10 notches which is surely to not happen.
