Senators re-sign Alfredsson!!!!

(Jul. 12th) — TFP has learned that the Ottawa Senators have re-sign team captain Daniel Alfredsson. The Ottawa Sun is reporting the two sides have agreed to a 2-year, $9.5 million contract, which could be worth as much as $10 million with bonuses.

The Senators would not confirm, nor deny these reports. A Senators representative told TFP, “We’ll announce it, when we announce it.”

This just goes to show you how screwed up the NHL is. Alfredson is arguably a top 5 player in the NHL and Bobby Holik is making twice his salary? God bless Daniel for being a loyal player. The NHL needs more players like him.

Wait when Alfredsson will be a UFA.

  3. Habfan4 says:

Well the new CBA will be in place when Alfredsson becomes a UFA (at the end of this newly inked contract). Hopefully the new agreement will contain some serious disincentives to prevent another team from out bidding the Sens for their Captain’s services.

Arguably a top 5 player…who the hell is arguing that? Top 50, maybe.

Come on man, you can’t be serious. Alfredsson might not be a top-5 player but he has always produced as a scorer at the NHL level and last year was his best as a leader on an Ottawa club that has been short on leadership. He played tough in the playoffs gainst Philly and TO.

Alfredsson is probably the third best player North of the 49th behind Naslund and Iginla. (Yes I put Sundin 4th on the list.) In the NHL, I would say he is definitely top 20.

The was the best signing of any “free” agent this year. He is the Senators. I am glad he is helping to keep that franchise afloat.

He is worth more than Guerin, Holik and Cujo. Go Sens Go!

  7. MantaRay says:

I expect UFA salaries to be much less than this years fiasco, but Alfredsson will probably be the pick of the crop the year he is a UFA.

He is one of my top 5 choices for best player in the League, regardless of contract status. The guy is a winner!
