Sens and 'Canes: 4-Player Deal

TSN is reporting that the Ottawa Senators have completed a 4-player deal sending Joe Corvo and Patrick Eaves to the Hurricanes for Mike Commodore and Cory Stillman.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=229406&hubname=Being a Sens fan, this deal seems as if Ottawa is “making a move to make a move”, and does not really them any better. Cory Stillman is a good player, but past his prime, (Bryan Smolinski deja vu, anyone?).

And giving up Corvo for Commodore is trading your only proper (and fastest skating, best puck-handling) offensive defenseman for another physical stay-at-home guy, when we already have four of those.

Complicating matters is that both Commodore and Stillman are UFA’s at the end of this season.

Looks like the intent of this move was the Sens trying to gain more experienced players while making room for re-signing Wade Redden, (no thanks).

Sens fans can only hope GM Bryan Murray has something else planned, as the ‘Canes are the clear winners of this trade.
