Yeam me to, 1 million for a 20 goal scorer, one of the best deals in the NHL.

It was expected, but im suprised he signed for so little for 2 years. Well good job by Ottawa, even is im a Leaf fan. I just unlike so many posters here like hockey, and just give my honest opinion.

    koo-doos to you

you know if you look at the sheet of GM nowadays, guys that has little experience between 0-5 years in NHL, even if they score 10-15-20 goals, they dont get paid like they were paid 10 years ago. Vermette 10 years ago would’ve had a contract of 5 years between 7-10 million. That was ridiculus.

Now GM’s gives 1 or 2 years and between 1 to 3 million.

    Expected.

Solid signing. He has proved himself, and given more icetime will soften the blow of losing Havlat. While he may not be as good as Havlat, he does not have the problem history, and does have the same or similar numbers early on like havlat.

I like this Kid. Good one on the Sens for signing him for so little. But it will bite them it the butt two years from now when he is scoring 65+ points, and wanting 3 million plus.

Yeah this does seem a little low when you consider what other comparable players are making around the league. Maybe Antonne’s a team player which is exactly what the Senators need right now.

Let the Vermette and Antropov comparisons begin.

you can do that while you are golfing in april

  9. Doctor says:

Well, so much for the senators. Antoine Vermette is poison to the team and he ensures the senators of nothing more than 11th place in the east and no playof appearances for two years. And that is generous.

Allow me to be the first to say “lol”.

Allow me to be the second to say “lol”.

GMs tend to give more bucks to experienced players even if a young talent is better but once those players gets to their prime, they’ll sometimes received ridiculously high offers.

Have you smoked to much weed lately ???

  14. Aetherial says:

    Vermette (24): 37 points, 82 games +17 – 1 million

    Antropov (26): 31 points, 57 games, +13 – 1.007 million

Antropov has proven injury prone. Vermette compiled very similar numbers on a MUCH better team though. In particular, the +/- numbers. Antropov’s ppg is significantly higher.

Now, given the choice, I would take Vermette because I see more upside and he is faster by a lot.

What really gets me is that the Leafs get crucified for their signing and the Sens get applauded for theirs.

Seems to me that the numbers tell a different story than a lot of people’s opinions.

  15. muckies says:

Antropov has played in 6 full NHL seasons and never recorded more than 16 goals. In Vermette’s first season, he scored 21 goals. Thats the difference – and Vermette didn’t get any PP time last season, Antropov did, AND Vermette was 2nd overall in the league for short handed goals with 6 last season, Antropov has 2 SHG in his career, and Vermette had 4 game winning goals last season, Antropov had 0….

One very good signing done,we need to re-sign Schaefer and Neil now.I wonder if the sens tried to sign Peca cause the leafs had him for cheap in my opinion. The sens should also try to sign Yanick Perreault, one of the best to win face offs, a great two way center and i think one of the most underrated players in the game.

  17. Aetherial says:

… and virtually everything can also be attributed to being on a MUCH better team. That does make a difference, a lot of difference. Antropov did not see a lot of PP time last year at all, but he was a pretty effective penalty killer.

For all those stats in Vermett’s favor, Antropov still has more PPG, and like I said, he was on a worse team.

I am not arguing that I would prefer Antropov I wouldn’t. I am only arguing that Antropov, statistically is in the same league as Vermette right now and the contracts are not much different… so the HUGE difference in people’s reactions is unjustified… like usual around here :)
