The Senators can't afford to pay their current players...let alone Nolan! I think the Senators deserve a lot of credit. Tops in the Leauge, despite all that is going on around them. Not bad!

First of all the sens can't afford Owen Nolan moneywise or playerwise. It would be good of them to get Bates Battaglia because all they have now is talent, not hard-nosed players. Too bad they still wouldn't be able to beat the Leafs!

Go Leafs!

I happen to know many, many Thrasher fans. Granted, many other teams have a larger fan base than we do. But all the fans I know are not content with winning the occasional game, very far from it.

We may live in a geographical location where hockey has never been that popular and there are relatively less supporters, but our passion for the game is the same as anyone. That may be tough to believe, I know. I'm guessing at least part of your assumption comes from that fact about geography. It's tough for those who have lived all their lives in the northern US or Canada to know what it is like here in the south (and that goes both ways as I don't know exactly what it is like to live up north).

But I was raised by my family that grew up in northern Minnesota, so I do have a fair idea what it's like and what this sport means to those up north. I have the benefit of the southern perspective of hockey, as well as a good idea of the northern perspective. I've found out that the passion for the game and for your team doesn't have a damn thing to do with where you live. Trust me, there are a great deal of Thrasher fans here who want nothing more than to win and are not willing to settle for anything else. Compared to other hockey town, our fan base is smaller and our fans a bit quieter. But we want a winner as bad as everyone else.

Nolan is not going to Ottawa. Probably not going anywhere. And I can't believe Carolina would give up on Battaglia yet. The best fit for Ottawa is a big boy who can scare opponents in the playoffs and can put the puck in the ocean every once in a while. Adam Graves is the quiet kind of tough. But Barnaby would have been perfect, and Sandy McCarthy would do just as well. McCarthy's numbers sometimed don't reflect it, but he can be used in the slot on the PP, instead of gooning it up.
