Brooks reports that Shanahan is optimistic about returning to the ice this season, yet there is no set timetable on when that return may or will happen.
Shanahan, who leads the playoff-hopeful Rangers in goals this season with 28, signed a 1-year deal before this season, and will be an unrestricted free agent at season’s end. He has missed the last 12 games as a result of the concussion he received from the collision wih Knuble.
The Rangers are 5-2-3 in their last 10 games, have recorded at least a point in each of their last 7, and currently hold a tie-breaker over the Carolina Hurricanes for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
