The Panthers sure look stupid now for moving Loungo. Now they have to look at trades like Nabokov (not as good as Loungo anyway).

Why they didn't just sign him is beyond me.

Now they have to give up either a valuable UFA, or young potential to re-acquire an asset they already had.

yah, losing luongo was one of the biggest mistakes of the offseason

  3. thegoalie1976 says:

That trade looks even worse than the Thornton one.

  4. SensShark says:

True..and not just fro the players straight up but the contracts as well. Sturm, Stuart and Primeau after being traded could've (fat chance) all sign with SJ and then Boston looks real stupid. Same with Luongo…Bertuzzi is an UFA and he was the key to the trade….

I know we are all just a bunch of regular hockey fans but sometimes I really think I could be a GM….look at Millburry from before and the new Mad Mike – Wadell.

  5. mikster says:

They had to trade him; he was continuously making it difficult to re-sign him as he kept delaying any negotiations and kept making new demands each time an offer was made.

    “I’ll re-sign if Jokinen re-signs”.

    —Jokinen re-signed, Luongo didn’t.

“I’ll look to re-open contract talks in April”

    —He didn’t.

“I’ll re-sign only if i get to choose my goalie coach and if McLennan comes back”

“I wan’t a one-year deal and even though i’ll become a UFA, i’ll consider your offer more than another team’s”

Panthers offered a contract worth $6M a season; and he liked a previous offer that was under $6M

—He rejected it and wanted $6.5M

Too much garbage and he should have been traded. I think the mistake was the trade itself acquiring a UFA player, a solid #4 d-man, and a decent starter at best. Keenan should have acquired youth and a roster player.

  6. Tachmo says:

    Wilson owes the Bruins.
Send Nabakov to Boston for Glenn Murray

  7. thegoalie1976 says:

He should have been traded for a comparable #1 potential goalie. You can't trade a franchise goalie and not get a guy that can be a #1 in return.

They should have worked a 3 way deal to get a Biron, Toskola/Nabokov, or Gigeure/Bryskolov. Now they are screwed and forced to give up valuable assets for another goalie they should have received in the first trade

  8. DJTOKid says:

    A nice dream would be…

To San Jose: Pavel Kubina and Brendan Bell
To Toronto: Evgeni Nabokov and Matt Carle

I know this is off-topic but can anyone confirm that Kovalev was put on waivers by montreal?

  10. Komic-J says:

Kovalev is supposed to be back in the line-up tonight against Toronto. Downey is the one the Canadiens put on waivers today. With Milroy back in Hamilton, I guess this is to make room for Kostitsyn.

  11. FlyerzFan12 says:

    i love leafs fans.

why don't the flyers trade derian hatcher to SJ for bernier, michalek, and a 1st rounder while we're at it?

  12. Sharks06 says:

the only player the Sharks would be even remotely interested in from Florida would be Jokinen

  13. ThomasHawks says:

they send down Kostitsyn too.Maybe Begin is ready to come back

  14. aircanada says:

What do you think of….. Nabokov heading to Boston in exchange for Murray… It makes sense for both sides… Boston is in need of a good goalie and Nabokov would fit really well as he is outstanding and im sure Thornton would love to once again play with Murray, and playing with Thornton, Murray put up 60, 92 and 60 points with 35, 44 and 32 goal seasons.

  15. ThomasHawks says:

Maybe Horton they already have big Joe and Marleau at center.

  16. mikster says:

Well, this is a rumor from a decent at best source as far as hockey media goes. I think they’ll rather sign a goalie.

  17. SensShark says:

I think Glen is a UFA at the end of the year and nabokov is signed for a couple more years….maybe draft picks back to SJ would make it even

  18. Downtown says:

Murray would be a waste for the Sharks.

They already have Cheechoo as the right winger with Thoornton, not to mention natural right wingers Steve Bernier, Milan Michalek and Ryane Clowe behind him.

There's no place for an expensive, aging winger in declining production in San Jose.

  19. Tachmo says:

Murray is locked up through 2008-2009. He makes 4.15 million/season.

  20. BieksaForMVP says:

What about L.A? I know there in the same conference, but like it's not like Montreal, and Toronto where there close in standing, and have a huge rivalry.

San Jose:  Dustin Brown, Mike Camelerie
    L.A: Evgeni Nabokov

I don't know where Cammalarie would fit in, but Brown is a left winger that San Jose desperately need.

  21. lockedge says:

Wow. The most you could get for Brendan Bell would be at the most, if Wilson(Sharks' GM) was delirious, would be Christian Ehrhoff. You'd probably get Davison and a pick, or Matt Morris.
As for Kubina, he's ok defensively, but his salary makes him nearly impossible to trade.

Sharks wouldn't bite on that deal.

  22. canadiensfan2007 says:

why not send him to montreal last minute for abby? great deal with no draft picks!

  23. horcoff10 says:

if nabokov were to go i think the best goalie trade would be  maybe

to san jose:roloson and a 2nd round pick
    to edmonton:nabokov

im an oiler fan and i love roloson but i dont think he is oiler material
