SHARKS SHIP HEATLEY TO WILD FOR HAVLAT

The San Jose Sharks have traded forward Dany Heatley to the Minnesota Wild for forward Martin Havlat.

Heatley scored 28 goals and added 38 assists in 80 games for the Sharks last season while Havlat scored 22 goals and added 40 assists in 78 games for the Wild.

The Wild inherit the last three years remaining on Heatley’s deal that will count as $7.5 million a year under the salary cap. However in real money, Heatley will make $8 million in 2011-12, $6 million in 2012-13 and $5 million in 2013-14.

Havlat has four years left remaining on his current contract, with an annual cap hit of $5 million.

Heatley has a modified no-trade. Had to submit a list of 10 teams he wouldn’t go to before July 1. Minnesota was not on that list.

Heatley’s tumultuous time in San Jose comes to an end after just two seasons. He demanded a trade from Ottawa following the 2008-09 season and was shipped to San Jose for Milan Michalek, Jonathan Cheechoo and a 2010 second round draft pick.
