Sounds like your pissed cause the Habs are a shell of their former selves. Wilson never had any intention of trading Marleau, it's everyone who tried reading in to our early exit from the playoffs, and all the Hab hopefuls, like yourself.

I totally agree with you about Gomez, Drury and Briere's contracts, way overpaid. But my thought on Marleau is that he probably could've gotten 7 Million somewhere else next year based on those 3 signings, and some more reasonable contracts around the league. Remember, Thornton did take a pay cut that would have put him in the 8-9M range (11M if you base it solely on the 3 above), so 6.3 for the teams second leading scorer (last year), team captain, and owner of many team records, is pretty accurate these days.

What I think we're seeing is inflation in the actual value of key players. Remember when the top paid goaltenders were worth about 2-3M/yr.? Now it's about 4-5M. This is a similar step. Revenues are up so there's more money to play with. At the same time, the players are actually worth a little more than their previous contract, as long as they have produced the same or better during that time. Doesn't sound like you factored this in.

hes a great player...ill never knock that

im saying.....the signings of gomez and co. shouldnt justify anything......
so wat if gomez got GROSSLY overpaid......im saying...guys like iginla and thornton took 2 mil pay cuts to stay with the team...yet no one follows THOSE examples

quiet captains like marleau lead by example....i just feel hes not doing it

if everyone feels like he deserves the contract....thats cool....just that my 2 cents is that hes worth no more that 5.3....maybe 5.5

I could care less if the Habs got him, Marleau ain't gonna bring a cup to San Jose anyways, he ain't no Sakic, Yzerman, Niedermeyer…. so have fun San Jose with a bust in the playoffs for another 3 more years, and Gainey, bullshit you tried trading for him, go for someone worth our time and none of these asshole G.M.'s like Doug Wilson *****ing us around dangling him then signing him to an extension. But ***** it, Habs all the way, GO HABS GO!

I would have to say yes.

Why do you think so? Considering the contracts that Briere, Drury, and Gomez signed this year, it sounds like 6.3Mil is a lowball offer to a guy of his caliber. You gotta admit he is one of the more complete players in the league and he's committed to his team and the community. I think he's proven his worth, he just needs to bring home the Cup.

Hopefully this puts to bed the "rumors" of him being shipped out of town. I almost vomited a couple of weeks ago when Dan "the douchebag" Blakeley and Mike "never laced up the skates but know more than you" Ross of XM 204 speculated he was going to Toronto for Pavel Kubina and Andrew Raycroft.
