The point is shots are a marker of a good team. Like cholesterol is a marker of your arteries clogging.

All the good teams I mentioned have a far better shots for-shots against ratio. Check it.

i wouldnt worry about the shots for as long as were putting the puck in the back of the net. besides this year toronto seemed to throw everything at the net and end up with a ton of shots every game but had nothing to show for it, if we wait until getting a decent scoring opportunity and then put the puck in the back of the net then i dont mind. Not to say shooting the puck is a bad idea, if we got 35 shots and got just as many goals then thats a plus but as long as we keep scoring.. i wouldnt think we have to go out and aquire a guy who shoots alot just to adress that situation.

It's not so much the 7-0 loss - every team is entitled to a bad game.

BUT the alarming thing for the Leafs is that they are almost always outshot by opponents.

26th in the league in shots for.

11th in most shots given up.

If you look at the top Stanley Cup contenders, that's not supposed to happen. Most top contenders are typically in the top 10 or 12 in shots for, and/or bottom 10 or 12 in shots given up. eg, Chicago, San Jose, Washington, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia....and yup, even the much maligned Vancouver and Boston.

This is very alarming.

Its even more than a matter of "after winning two games." Its after winning two games and STILL being last in the conference.

Look, I take my opportunities to slam the Leafs as much as the next guy (and I enjoy it so very very much). Buuuuuuut, there isnt much ANYONE can say right now about them. They ARE playing really really well .. last nights drubbing not withstanding.

Exactly. This can be regarded as what Boston did to Thornton. Boston had a horrid start and wanted to shake things up. They traded the once untradeable Jumbo Joe who was coming off a solid season. So yeah the chance is Nash wont garner as much as everyone expects. Same with Vinny in Tampa his horrid contract and play is what really makes him a risk to take on.
