Now that the playoffs are over, things could get interesting for the Leafs.

    As per Eklund,

“I am still hearing that Edmonton is prepared to strengthen its push to acquire Dion Phaneuf with an offer Toronto can’t refuse. Right now — and these things can and will change fast by draft weekend — I would say the chances that Phaneuf ends up in Edmonton are greater than him ultimately staying put with the Leafs.”

what would edmonton be offering do you think? Eklund said that leafs were asking for schenn and a high pick from philly. If Edm is pushing strong for phaneuf what would be the offer? I would like to think of 2 possibilities.

Phaneuf + for gagner, 4th overall

      Phaneuf for yakupov swap.

tough to say phaneufs value however

Based on Cap space, I would think Luke has to be coming with Brayden, unless they’re planning on shipping out Coburn.

Something along the lines of Schenn, Schenn, and 17th pick for Phaneuf and another small piece.
If MacT is actually make a huge push, I would think Phaneuf for 3rd pick and someone like Klefbom.

        • Edmonton fans would hang themselves if that trade happened, and rightfully so. That’s not a splash, that’s insanity. No way should Edmonton even consider that thought. If Klefbom goes, another small piece is going with him. If the 3rd goes – that’s debatable but I don’t think they need to add anything. No way you toss in Klefbom and the 3rd.

      I love the Phaneuf + 8 OA for 3rd overall…

For one, Bennett is projected at 3 and the kid can’t even do a pull up at 170lbs, how can he be expected to play against grown men, has bust written all over him and given his connection with Gilmour you know MLSE would make the feel good pick.

If the Leafs would trade Phaneuf straight up for 3 OA and Nonis had the sack to draft Draisaitl, then sure do it.

I’d rather Ritchie or Nylander at 8th.

Why would Toronto take Gagner? He’s Kadri light besides the fact that Edmonton is thin at C and can’t afford dumping Gagner, it’s not like a UFA will sign there to replace him.

Phaneuf for Nurse + would be a better fit for Toronto IMO.

Phaneuf for Ferrence and a 4th rounder. I would be thrilled. If we can move that contract before the NTC kicks in July 1, and not retain salary I would be thrilled.

I hate to be this guy, but for those of you who think an nhl gm out there is giving up serious value for that contract you are in for a let down.

I’d be happy to get Mike VanRyn and a 4th.

Considering Friedman has directly suggested that Phnauef’s deal was signed to give him more trade value, I’ll continue to believe that a GM will in fact give up value for Phaneuf with that contract thank you very much

I love how everyone thinks Phaneuf is worth nothing becaus he makes AT BEST an extra 500k per year. He is a top defenseman on most teams that plays every part of the ice.

I think the value of Phaneuf outside of Toronto would surprise most, to be honest. Do I think he is a Norris type dman, no, but he is a top end guy whether people want to admit it or not. I am not saying I wouldn’t trade him, but I am not dying to move him either.

Another thing to look at is Phaneuf is actually gaining interest around the league from a few teams and im sure other teams would offer more then ference and a 4th. It will turn into a bidding war. Why wouldnt a team between 10-20 pick decide “hey, our guy we wanted just got picked, why not flip it for a top pair dman?”. And thats only if there was one team interested. Value is higher. And Phaneuf would have gotten more on the market.
