I just think Cherry is very hypocritical.

The guy has put down Ovechkin 1000 thousand times, he called out Grabovski last year for not blocking every shot possible, and I hate his ignorant ideology against international players. Speak about Wilson all you want? But you should not be commenting when you do exactly the same thing every week, including junior players of all things.

I think it's good Burke defends his players and coaches, shows to his staff that he truly does care for all of them and that this is not just a business.

Something tells me this is something from nothing. Burke hasn't said anything about this and Cherry's comments were more in response to Burke potentially doing what has been claimed about him.

Simmons is just jumping on the "bring down Burke" bandwagon since Burke made him look the fool multiple times while he's been GM.

Agreed. I'm sick of people trying to defend this old man. I'm sorry, but this isn't the *****ing 50s, you can't be a major media personality and openly hold prejudice against huge groups (like, I don't know, French Canadians and Europeans - with a few select exceptions). I'm sick of the CBC bending over and letting this cranky old fool do whatever he wants with his HNIC segment.

On a different note, Ron McLean is the epitome of professionalism. It truly is sad that he is juxtaposed next to Grapes on a weekly basis. Knows his stuff, highly media savvy, and is (usually) able to leash the foaming-at-the-mouth pit bull he's forced to work with.

And on the Burke note: has anyone seen the Toronto hockey media? This article is trying to fault him for trying to deal with the whirlwind of BS that the likes of the Sun, Star, Globe, Post, CBC, TSN, Sportsnet, and all the others launch at the organization on a nightly basis. He's authoritative and firm in his dealings with the media - what's wrong with that? Would he be better off to simply lay down and let them roll over him with stupid questions and rumours that have no basis in reality? Was this an issue in Anaheim? No, because he wasn't constantly bombarded with nonsense.
