Mike Milbury as GM well that would officially be the end of ever seeing the leafs in the Playoffs let alone a Stanley Cup. I can honestly say I would rather see Gord Stellick come back and be GM because he only made one real Bone Head trade that sticks out in my head where Wild Mike Milbury made so many I lost count. I don't know how this guys stays in Hockey Circles I know he played and everything but he must be some stupid to be around the game so long and still not have a clue. I guess the Richard Peddie would want I guy like this around because they have the same Hockey sense. I can't even stand seeing Milbury on TSN he should be gone far far far away from the NHL

and so now its the morning after.

i can say this will all the honesty i can muster: i feel WORSE today than i did when the leafs were eliminated from playoff contention in each of the last two years. i knew they didnt have a shot in those instances so it was no big whoop.

but this, losing Rask and watching him play so well last night - WHAT A NATURAL! everything that i read about him was true.

again, maybe Pogge works out amazingly well, but i think it was a mistake to trade Rask regardless - at least keep both of them.

its the kind of trade that i think will go down as among the worst ever. i know this is hyperbole and too soon to say, but i felt it when the trade was made, and man do i feel it today ... and to a Northeast division opponent too!!!

---

never have i felt the need to completely rebuild than i do today. i thnk the leafs can do it in under a year - not that quickness is necessary. but i've said since the lockout that teams can rebuild faster because of the cap (and then look what happened to Phlly last year).

so yeah, trade McCabe if you can, Kubina, Sundin, Tucker, Bell, even Antropov (while his value is still high), Poni, Blake, Gill, Raycroft, etc.

wont be able to trade all of them or get fair value for them because of the market and because of the NTCs, and it shouldnt be done by the current GM (obviously). but the leafs badly need to make up for the prospect-mistakes that have been made the past couple of seasons by a GM who had a scouting-background but who was put into a stupid spot by some stupid owners.

i look at Tlusty and Wellwood and Stralman and Pogge and it becomes obvious - these players can play in the NHL now and learn the pro game now (not to mention Kulemin). Tlusty was drafted in 2006 - why go big in the next two drafts and reap the rewards by 2009-2011???

i've always preached 'building' - but that plan went out the window when the Toskala trade was made.

Yes but until he starts scoring which was the reason he was brought in the first place, the media wont quiet down. He scored 40 last year and has only 2 so far, a sniper doesnt just turn into a playmaker overnight. Hes getting alot of those assists from Sundin's hard work EVEN THOUGH he has been playing quite well IMO.
Indeed, he has come a long way. I still remember his very first game in October 1998, a 2-1 win over defending champions Detroit. Everyone was saying, who the heck is this guy?
