Because of all those factors and Iginla’s popularity in Calgary, its believed Feaster is seeking two prospects and a first-round pick for a player that’s set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. A source indicated to CSNNE.com that the Flames are enamored with Bruins 2012 first-round pick Malcolm Subban as an heir apparent to the aging Miikka Kiprusoff in Calgary.
Given that the Bruins were discussing Alex Khokhlachev with the Dallas Stars in exchange for Morrow, a package of Subban, Khokhlachev and a first-round pick is likely in the neighborhood of what Feaster is seeking for Iginla. That’s too rich for Boston’s blood for a rental that will play roughly 10 regular season games plus a playoff run, even if Iginla is a veteran superstar hungering for a Cup that could be exactly what the Bruins are looking for.
Other teams engaging in trade talks with the Bruins have been told that both Subban and playmaking center Ryan Spooner aren’t available in trades.
So, a source with knowledge of trade discussions has indicated to CSNNE.com that the Bruins are in on several other available top six forwards just in case the Iginla talks fall apart. Jaromir Jagr and Marty St. Louis are a pair of game-changing players that could fit the bill as offensive playmakers and power-play boosters that could immediately help the Black and Gold’s attack.
They also might be available in a package for lesser assets than what Calgary is seeking for Iginla.
Czech Republic center David Krejci grew up idolizing Jagr, and acquiring the future Hall of Famer could provide a big boost for their No. 1 center. Likewise St. Louis’ playmaking abilities have factored heavily into the development of Steve Stamkos as a goal scorer for Tampa Bay. It has to be tantalizing to think what kind of damage a St. Louis/Seguin combo could do in black and gold.
