Source: Chiarelli chats with Flyers GM Holmgren
While it’s difficult to zero in on exactly what Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli is looking for, sources indicated to CSNNE.com that the B’s GM was in Pittsburgh last night to watch the highly entertaining Penguins-Flyers game.
Chiarelli chatted with Philadelphia Flyers GM Paul Holmgren for the entire intermission between the second and the third period before the Flyers held on for a 6-5 victory at the CONSOL Energy Center.
It’s the second time that Chiarelli has spent time personally watching the Flyers players as he also was in the press box for Philadelphia’s Jan. 22 game against the New Jersey Devils. It’s no secret that Philly has stumbled out of the gate and needs major defensemen help with the injuries they’ve sustained along their blue line, and that Boston has good NHL depth with seven capable guys on the Boston roster along with at least four able-bodied blueliners (Torey Krug, Matt Bartkowski, David Warsofsky and Zach Trotman) ready to help an NHL club from the AHL level.
The question is what the Bruins might be looking for in return, and whether Chiarelli was in Pittsburgh watching the Penguins or the Flyers. It’s no secret the Bruins general manager is looking for depth and perhaps a little scoring ability at the wing position, and there was plenty of that on display for the Penguins and Flyers.
