Sourced Trade Rumours 11

In light of the recent suspension of Flyers forward Scott Hartnall, I decided to make Trade Rumours 11 to lighten the mood on the HTR Main Page. So, here it is.

Coming from http://www.thefourthperiod.com/rumors.html

Ottawa Senators: According to the Ottawa Sun, GM Bryan Murray is still looking for another legitimate Top 6 Forward. Murray told the Sun that it’ll be difficult to trade for one at the moment and says he will likely have to wait until teams are unofficially eliminated from the Play-Off picture. The Sun claims that if the Columbus Blue Jackets or Atlanta Thrashers are eliminated by the deadline, the Sens could pursue either Sergei Fedorov or Marian Hossa. Personally, if I had to choose between the two, I’d take Fedorov but only because he’s won the Cup 3 times and has played 162 Play-Off games, scoring 163 points in the process.

Toronto Maple Leafs: As we all know, Richard Peddie said (out of context I might add), that hiring a rookie GM (Not JFJ necessarily) may have been a mistake seeing as everything in Toronto is put under a an extreme microscope. Over the last little while their has been speculation that Steve Yzerman, Mark Messier, Ron Francis, Glenn Healy and Joe Nieuwendyk may take over as GM at some point this season or during the summer. The only thing I’ll say is that that none of those guys would really help the team and the Leafs would be better off getting someone such as Neil Smith or Steve Tambellini to come in and rebuild over the next 3-6 years. Build from within and bring in bit pieces to help bring the young guys along. A name that came up during the Leafs shootout loss to Montreal was that of Doug MacLean, who has recently failed in his attempt to help purchase the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Tampa Bay Lightning: The potential sale of the Lightning has fallen through as Absolute Hockey Enterprises were unable to come up with the necessary funds for a payment that was due on November 12th. Palace Sports & Entertainment will continue to run the Lightning until another potential buyer comes.

Chicago Blackhawks: In an amusing story, Hawks forward Tuomo Ruutu was accidentily arrested by police on Tuesday. What happend was a robbery took place about a half-mile from where Ruutu was jogging and the robbery suspect was wearing a black track suit, hat and was in his mid-20’s. Guess what Ruutu was wearing. Yes, a black track suit and hat and he happens to be in his mid-20’s. Ruutu told the Chicago Sun-Times that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time and that this isn’t the first time this has happend. On another note, the Hawks have slowly stopped their search for a puck moving defenceman for the time being. They apparently approached the Leafs and Predators about Bryan McCabe and Marek Zidlicky but nothing mounted from their inquiries.

Anaheim Ducks: According to the Orange County Register, GM Brian Burke has denied the rumour that he may join the Leafs after this season to be their GM. Burke laughed the rumour off saying “Some of this stuff they write can only be ascribed to drug-induced rumours“. Burke went on to point out that he is under contract with the Ducks for this season and next season. He also said that he doesn’t have an out in his contract nor does he want out of his contract. Henry and Susan Samueli (Owners of the Ducks) are expected to sign Burke to an extension later this season.

Toronto Maple Leafs: GM John Ferguson Jr. continues to man the phones in an attempt to improve the Leafs overall defence. But, the only players teams are currently interested in are Alex Steen, Kyle Wellwood and other young forwards, something JFJ will not part with. If JFJ gets a deal done however, he still has to run it by Upper Management, yet another reason why JFJ has not been able to do his job properly over his 4 years.

Dallas Stars: The Stars have lost RW Jere Lehtinen for 8-10 weeks as he is having Sports Hernia Surgery within the next day or two. With this news, comes speculation that the Stars may search even harder for another scoring threat. But, Co-GM Les Jackson said they will fill injury voids from within.

Pittsburgh Penguins: After being scratched for 4 of the Pens last 5 games, veteran RW Mark Recchi expects to be traded in the coming weeks. According to the Vancouver Province, scouts from the Blue Jackets have been following Recchi lately. Recchi played for Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitch***** back in the WHL with the Kamloops Blazers and in the NHL with the Flyers. Also, the Province says the Vancouver Canucks may look to Recchi’s services but his age may play a factor in Dave Nonis’ decision.

Columbus Blue Jackets: Defenceman Ron Hainsey is currently having a career year and is slated to be a UFA July 1st. Hainsey is currently on pace for 10 goals and 51 assists and should earn a pay increase to something above $2.25 million. He currently makes $900 000. Also, veteran defenceman Adam Foote is also a UFA at season’s end and the Jackets would love to keep him but at a cheaper price then his current $4.6 million salary.

Edmonton Oilers: The Oilers have a sought after RFA that remains unsigned at this time. Defenceman Tom Gilbert, who is making $907 000 this season is slated to be an RFA at season’s end. It may be hard to sign Gilbert as other defencemen such as Brent Burns and Matt Carle have received pay increases in the $3.4 million range. The Oilers would love to keep Gilbert to a salary much like the Avs John-Michael Liles ($1.345) or the Habs Mike Komisarek ($1.7).

Philadelphia Flyers: GM Paul Holmgren signed Defenceman Braydon Coburn to a 2 year extension and that is the first of many other extensions Holmgren wishes to hand out. Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, Randy Jones, RJ Umberger and Jason Smith all remain without contracts for next season at this time. Holmgren has already started contract talks with Richards and Smith and will begin talks with Umberger, Jones and Carter in the new year. Also, Holmgren wishes to sign Head Coach John Stevens to an extension as he too is in the final year of his contract.

Pittsburgh Penguins: According to Pierre McGuire, Mark Recchi believes he will be dealt by Friday. McGuire got this information by texting the 39 year old veteran Tuesday night.

Peter Forsberg: Forsberg is expected to begin skating with MoDo of the Swedish Elite League after Christmas.

Washington Capitals: According to the Russian paper, Sports-Express, the Caps are supposedly going to offer potential RFA Alexander Ovechkin a contract worth about 10.3 million per season in the next few days. Spector notes that Russian papers don’t have a good grasp of NHL news and he cautions everyone to take this report with a grain of salt.

Florida Panthers: Mike Van Ryn continues to be bothered by his surgically repaired wrist and hopes he won’t need further surgery. If he does, Coach/GM Jacques Martin may make a move or two to replace Van Ryn. However, Spector notes that Martin is more likely going to just call up someone to replace Van Ryn or will watch the Waiver Wire closely in case Van Ryn’s done for the year.

Well that does it for this article. Hope you enjoy it.
