I was just looking through a few sites and all of a sudden, a lot of rumours started popping up and I decided to make Trade Rumours 4 a few days before I intended too. So, here it goes.

Montreal Canadiens: Trade talks surround the Habs dressing room, Michael Ryder and Jaroslav Halak in particular. Their is no sense of urgency to trade either one but GM Bob Gainey is entertaining offers. The Ryder talks started because of his slow start (2 goals in 13 games) and because of his UFA status at year’s end. Halak rumours were started when Carey Price won the back-up job to Cristobal Huet in October. With no real future in Montreal, Halak wants or should want the chance to be a #1 in the NHL.
Edmonton Oilers: According to the Boston Globe, the Oilers are in contact with Free Agent Anson Carter. Carter had a try-out with the Oilers in September but suffered a concussion in an exhibition game. He has fully recovered and is ready to make a come-back. Also, according to the Ottawa Sun, the Oilers are also willing to trade Left Winger Raffi Torres. UPDATE: Anson Carter has signed a contract with HC Lugano of the Swiss NLA.
Boston Bruins: With Patrice Bergeron set on being put on the long term IR, the Bruins could use some of his 4.75 million dollar Cap Hit to aquire another forward via trade or free agency. The Bruins also have a lot of prospects playing in Providence (AHL) and could continue to entertain offers for P.J Axelsson. Either way, if a trade does happen, it should involve a few prospects and Axelsson for maybe a rent-a-player like Marian Hossa (Not necessarily Hossa himself, that’s me speculating).
Anaheim Ducks: The Scott Niedermayer watch has been revived as he has reportedly told TSN’s Darren Dreger that he has set a self-imposed time limit on a possible return. According to TSN.ca, Niedermayer hasn’t specified when his deadline is but said his decision will be made by Christmas. In any case, his return would surely elevate the Ducks both talent wise and mental wise. If Niedermayer does in fact return, a trade has to be made to free up Cap Space for Niedermayer’s 6.75 Cap Hit. It currently doesn’t count since he was suspended by the team. It is believed Ilya Bryzgalov and Todd Marchant are on the trade block so as to free up the necessary Cap Space for Niedermayer’s possible return.
Chicago Blackhawks: GM Dale Tallon has said that he would like to add an offensive defenceman to solidify the Hawks Power Play. But, he wants to do so, at the right price. Both the Phoenix Coyotes and Toronto Maple Leafs have defencemen available but both come at a steep price, trade wise and Cap wise.
Columbus Blue Jackets: According to the Ottawa Sun, the Jackets GM Scott Howson has been working the phones regularly to find a mobile defenceman and a Top 2 Centre. According to the Sun, Howson has talked to the Oilers but they may not be suitable trading partners. According to The Fourth Period, the Jackets have some interest in Derek Morris of the Coyotes as well as Marek Zidlicky from Nashville, who are quietly entertaining offers for Zidlicky.
Montreal Canadiens: Instead of making one big paragraph to start this article, I decided to make a seperate one for the latest on the Habs. Despit being offered a contract to play in Russia, Jaroslav Halak rejected the offer and chose to remain committed to the Habs. Halak’s agent has told La Presse that his client has not asked or demanded a trade nor has he threatened to go to Russia. According to La Presse and The Fourth Period, the San Jose Sharks, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals and Phoenix Coyotes have shown interest in Halak. Also, the Habs are apparently entertaining the idea to package Michael Ryder in a larger deal to aquire a legitimite Top 6 NHL Goal Scorer. Ryder was moved from the 1st to the 4th line, making trade speculations more prominant.
Tampa Bay Lightning: A day I have been waiting for, according to the Ottawa Sun, Tampa’s coach, John Tortorella is the most recent coach to go on the Hot Seat. According to the Sun, Tortorella was so upset with the Lightning’s performance on the road, he made them take a Manhatten tour while still in their equipment. The Sun also reports that San Jose’s Ron Wilson and Los Angeles’ Marc Crawford are also in a Hot Seat.
Colorado Avalanche: With Peter Forsberg set to make a return to the ice in the next week, the Avalanche are supposedly sending a scout or two to watch him play. According to teammate Magnus Wernblom, Forsberg apparently has that look in his eyes and he seems to have gotten back into his groove. Supposedly the Avs, Flyers, Stars, Wings, Canadiens, Canucks and Senators are all interested in the 34 year old Centre. Expect a lot of scouts to be in the stands for this tournament. No matter where Forsberg goes, he’ll bring a winning attitude and a lot of offence to his new team.
Minnesota Wild: According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Wes Walz was excused from the team for “personal reasons”. It is widely specualted that Walz is contemplating retirement. Walz is the Wild’s all-time Games Played leader (438) and ranks second to Marian Gaborik in Goals and Points (82, 182 respectively).

Ottawa Senators: Ken Campbell suggests that the Sens should avoid a bidding war to obtain Peter Forsberg and should concentrate on getting Mats Sundin. That’s right, the same Mats Sundin who plays for the provincial rival Toronto Maple Leafs. Spector says that “It would be a cold day in hell before the Leafs would move someone to the Sens”. But, he makes an interesting point later on in that Sundin could potentially go to the Sens but, only if it’s a 3-team deal. Where the Leafs would send Sundin to a third party who would then send Sundin to the Sens.
Atlanta Thrashers: Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal suggested that if the Thrashers and Marian Hossa can not agree to a deal, possible trade destinations could be: San Jose, Colorado, Pittsburgh, Boston, Carolina, Detroit and Minnesota. The only reason being that these teams have significant Cap Space left but the Pens, Canes and Wild have a Cap Limit lower then the NHL’s. The Bruins would have to send an aging Glen Murray to make room for when Bergeron gets back. The Sharks want a Defenceman. Which leaves Colorado and Detroit, who will likely not do anything until Forsberg signs. Steve McCarthy and Bobby Holik may be available as well as Hossa.
Pittsburgh Penguins: According to Steve Zipay of Newsday, Pens scouts have been following the Dallas Stars. According to Zipay, the Pens are scouting Marty Turco and/or a defenceman. Spector notes that Turco’s going no where as he has a No Trade Clause. He then suggests that Zipay may have meant Mike Smith.
Phoenix Coyotes: HC Lugano of the Swiss NLA has contacted Goaltender David Aebischer about playing in Europe. Aebischer has apparently asked time to consider the offer. He currently plays for the Coyotes AHL team, San Antonio.
Washington Capitals: According to HOKEJ.CZ, Caps forward Jakub Klepis is unhappy playing in the AHL and has asked to be traded. According to his agent, their is a lot of interest in the Czech forward but the Caps asking price is way too high. His agent went on to suggest that if improvement of the situation does not happen, Klepis may accept an offer to go to Europe.
Ottawa Senators: According to Bruce Garrioch
of the Ottawa Sun, the only way Wade Redden will stay a Senator is if Joe Corvo is moved at some point this season.
Brian Burke: Burke has proposed a “rule change” that would allow other teams to pick up a portion of a players salary through trade. He states that it would spark more trading among teams. Burke is one of many GM’s finding it hard to trade. Spector notes that the rule change will likely not happen because it may open up CBA talks much earlier then the NHL would want.
Columbus Blue Jackets: GM Scott Howson is believed to have talked to Oilers GM Kevin Lowe about LW Raffi Torres and possible a defenceman as well. A trade could happen but it may not happen until Sheldon Souray, Mathieu Roy, Matt Greene and Joni Pitkanen return from injury.
Los Angeles Kings: Gm Dean Lombardi has halted his pursuit of a quality goaltender as Jean-Sebastien Aubin and Jason LaBarbera have strung together several quality starts between them.
Vancouver Canucks: Gm Dave Nonis has shot down rumours that he is shopping around Markus Naslund. However, he is entertaining offers for the Cancuk’s Captain. It is widely known that Nonis wants to shake up his roster. What better way then to trade your Captain? Little note, I am being sarcastic about trading your Captain.
Well, their are several trade rumours I found. Quite interesting if you ask me and who knows, this may spark a trade that comes out of no where. Like a 3 way trade involving the Leafs, Sens and Sundin.

Speaking of Forsberg, TSN just posted something on their site saying that Forsberg left practice after an hour because his ankle wasn't holding up. Apparently he's going to see the doctors to see if there is anything he can do.

Re Sundin, I completely agree with Spector. There is no way Sundin is going to Ottawa. Even the 3rd team scenario seems far fetched.
Re Redden, I'm of the opinion that you have to let him walk, unless he's willing to accept a major pay cut. He's not the player he used to be, not even close. Also, why would Ottawa even consider moving Corvo? The guy has developed into an excellent blueliner, and at around $2M, he's actually a great bargain.
Well, if he gets hurt, this is the time for him to get hurt…before you acquire him. It's actually a blessing in disguise. He's had more injuries than most WWII vets.
I figured their would be since Eklund's going around saying Kaberle's getting traded to everyone lol Just goes to show you Eklund is about as reliable as a wet paper towel hold a brick.
Redden is the minutes leader on the Sens, and this on a team that is stacked. He may not be the most physical D-man in the league, but he is and has always been one of the most important Sens in all situaitions, PP, PK and 5 on 4, 4 on 4 OT.
Corvo is a #5 or #6 on most nights, and at his rate and 3 years left and how he can skate he is excellent trade bait for a team that is looking to upgrade their D and get a mobile D man with a huge shot. The Sens laways deal players to the West – Vancouver is looking for a player like Corvo, Edmonton might if their injuries continue.
Corvo is gone after this season, he is making money that they need for Kelly and Vermette. he is gone by the deadline, Redden stays because he is to valuable to trade
Thing about Forsberg, it could be psychological. He could be thinking theirs a problem when in reality, he's probably fine. If that is the case, that it's all mental, then that tells me he isn't mentally prepared to comeback.
Who knew that the Forsberg-Lindros deal was a deal of two "What might have been" players.
You probably watch the Sens more than I do. I'm just going by what I saw mostly last year. Clearly the situation has changed, if that's the case.
I'll have a chance to see both players again tomorrow when the Leafs come to town.

I agree with the last sentence to a large extent, although Forsberg has clearly had the better NHL career.
And it wasn't a 1-for-1 swap. Philly lost more than just Forsberg in that deal.
Its really not looking good for Forsberg right now. If his heart isn't into playing, I wouldn't pick him up. He should seriously think about following Eric Lindros into retirement.
Players like Holik won't be available until the trade deadline…at least they shouldn't be. Don Waddell has consistently proven himself to be a pretty bad NHL GM, so you never know, Holik could be gone tomorrow. You have to feel that Hossa does not want to be a part of Atlanta's long term future. Unless Waddell throws the bank at him.
Part of the issue with Columbus is not only finding an offensive defenseman, but finding one that will play well under Hitch. Bryan Berard is one of the better offensive defensemen in the league, and we all know how that turned out in Columbus. Berard is also a one-way defenseman. Morris and Zidlicky can certainly provide 40 points a year, but both have serious defensive deficiencies as well. But you never know, players like that could blossom under Hitch's system.
Anson Carter's NHL career should be about done. I've always felt he was very overrated, as he has had his best years playing with very good offensive centers (Allison, Weight, Sedin).
I highly doubt a 3 way deal involving the Leafs, Sens and Sundin will happen anytime soon, if at all. I don't care what the logic is. 3 way trades are rare enough. Even IF this ever happens, it wouldn't happen til the trade deadline, as no team is totally out of the playoff picture yet. Trading Sundin equals Toronto basically giving up on this season, and looking to the future. Which you just don't do, when you're not even 20 games into the year. And this is Toronto we're talking about. You never know what can happen.
Very true. That's a deal you can bet that Bobby Clarke wishes he had never even considered.
I don't care what anyone says, there is simply no way I'd take a healthy Eric Lindros over a healthy Peter Forsberg.

I had to look it up. Here's the full trade:
To Philadelphia: Eric Lindros
To Quebec: Steve Duchesne, Kerry Huffman, Mike Ricci, Ron Hextall, Chris Simon, Philadelphia's 1993 1st round draft choice, Philadelphia's 1994 1st round draft choice and $15,000,000.
The 'almost' trade with the NY Rangers:
Lindros almost went to the NY Rangers for the following players:
Doug Weight, Tony Amonte, Alexei Kovalev, John Vanbiesbrouck and three first round draft picks (1993, 1994 & 1995) and $12 M.
The deal was ruled invalid by an arbitrator who awarded Lindros to Philadelphia.
Of course I forgot to add Forsberg's name to Quebec.
It's power vs. finesse. Lindros was sheer brute force, whereas Forsberg was pure skill, although his toughness was a bonus.
I think most regarded Forsberg as the best all-around player in the league for about a 5-year stretch before the injuries started.
Wow, I actually thought Philly got something in that deal. And that's not disrespecting Lindros.
Duchesne was a good, solid offensive defenceman who lasted 1 year in Quebec. Had 20 goals and 82 points in 82 games in lone season in Quebec before signing on to St. Louis.
Kerry Huffman lasted 2 uneventful years in Quebec (80GP 4G 24A 28Pts) before going to Ottawa.
Mike Ricci played 5+ years in Quebec/Colorado (339GP 91G 137A 236Pts), winning a Cup in 1996. He ws then traded to San Jose with a 2nd round pick(Jaroslav Kristek) for Shean Donovan and a 1st round pick (Alex Tanguay) in 1998.
Ron Hextall played 1 year in Quebec (54 GP 29-16-5 3.45 .888) before being traded to the Islanders along with a 1st round pick (Todd Bertuzzi) for Mark Fitzpatrick and a 1st round pick (Adam Deadmarsh). Both picks were 1993 draft picks.
Chris Simon played 4 years in Quebec/Colorado (146GP 24G 32A 56 Pts 555PIM) before being traded with Curtis Leschyshyn to Washington for Keith Jones and a 1st Round pick in 1998.
Quebec ended up taking Jocelyn Thibeault with the Draft pick they got in the Lindros Deal in 1993. In 1994, the Nordiques took Wade Belak with the 13th Overall choice and Jeff Kealty with the 22nd Choice.
It did ended up working out for Philly though, especially after they stole Eric Desjardins and John LeClair from a dumbass GM in Montreal.
I really don't see the Sens keeping Redden unless he takes a MAJOR paycut!! ie 3.5-4ish mil a year! Maybe a long-long-term deal at that rate would make him stay not sure?
At the end of the day Ottawa has 40 million next year committed to 10 players, and about 10-12 million (depending what cap is and if Melynuk spends to cap) to sign 10-12 more players. Granted most of their big guns are signed and the players left are all in the 0.800-2ish million range it's going to be tough, and this doesn't include Redden. Even if they offload a goaltender for 3.5+ million it'll be tough.
In the 10 players left they have Eaves, Vermette, Kelly, Mezaros, etc. Most of them will want 1.8-2.5 million give/or take a bit (Probably will have to let at least one go.. i'm thinking Eaves if he wants too much money). And the Sens have to be careful about some of them possibly getting RFA offer sheets.
At the end of the day if you can't keep Redden for under 4ish million, the money you save you can sign another quality defender.
This team will still be competitive without any weakness's, it'll still have good (Not great) goaltending, good defense, an amazing 1st/3rd line, and a solid 2nd/4th line to be a 100+pt/season team for years to come and make many more runs at the cup!!!!
Carter is starting to look like he would be a good pick up. You can't buy chemistry and the Sedins and Carter had it in Spades. Nonis should get over himself and sign Carter.
This is becoming a classic series. We should make a dvd for these rumors instead of an article. We should get someone like Dustin Hoffman to be a guest in the dvd.
While they are very different players, the big difference between them is that Lindros has not played at an All-Star level for a very long time. Even with all of his injury issues, Forsberg is still an extremely dangerous player. He's been better longer, and has the Stanley Cups to back up his credentials.
I'm not even sure that Lindros is a Hall of Fame player. You can make some good arguments for him, but some good arguments against him too.
Wade Belak 13th overall pick? Gotta love scouts.
Re the Lindros trade to Philly, it actually worked out better for the Rangers that they lost the arbitration…they would have given up Kovalev, Amonte, Weight, etc.

Halak hasn't exactly shown that he should be a number 1. He played well last year, but not spectacular. Right now he has shown that he's a back-up who can hold the fort when the number 1 is injured. Price hasn't exactly shown he's an NHL number 1 either. I would still let Huet be the number 1 for now, let him play 40 or 50 games(he seems to tire out as the season wears on, and has never played more then 50 games in a season) And let Price and Halak split the rest (15/15 or 20/20)

It would deplete the Sens cap space, but Torres brings grit and some play-off experience. playing with Spezza and Heatley, he should be able to get back to his close-to-30 goal form. If not, put him on waivers, get the cap space back and try again.
I don't want to get rid of Corvo, but if it meant keeping Redden…they're almost the same age, but Redden brings more to the table. He not only brings skill, but leadership and experience. So, if Redden agreed to a major discount (nothing over 4 million) than I would trade Corvo, if he wants more than that, let him walk. But still..I think that before Redden our priorities have got to be Kelly, Vermette and Meszaros. re-sign those three, and then see if you can keep Redden. But because we have Meszaros, Corvo and Lee who are all cheaper versions of Redden, he's not essential. I guess I want to keep him more because he's been a leader and face of the franchise.
Vancouver should try and re-sign Carter. He had chemistry with the Sedins, maybe they can re-find it. I don't think it would hurt. But it could possibly shake things up.

As for Sundin to Ottawa, could you imagine facing a team in the playoffs with Spezza-Sundin-Fisher down the middle. Yikes, that's got Stanley Cup written all over it, but I doubt it would happen.
I just heard on the news that Forsberg is just about to call it quits due to being injured again.
Sundin to Ottawa is doubtfull for many reasons but the i dont think he fits in the cap anyways.
Redden stated he would take a paycut to stay in Ottawa but it all depends on how much of a paycut.
