St. Louis for Turco, Torres Stoll, and Samsonov

Are the Lightning and Stars talking trade? Would the Oilers move Raffi Torres? Is Sergei Samsonov on the outs in Chicago?

According to The Score, the Tampa Bay Lightning and Dallas Stars may be discussing a swap of forward Martin St. Louis and goalie Marty Turco.

However, both players own no-trade clauses in their contracts and would both have to approve the trade for it to happen.

The benching of struggling forward Raffi Torres prompted speculation from Terry Jones of the Edmonton Sun that the Edmonton Oilers may trade him if he doesn’t improve his game soon.

While forward Jarret Stoll was also sent to the press box for the a game, it’s believed that the Oilers will hang on to him.

Chicago Blackhawks head coach Denis Savard tells Tim Sassone of the Chicago Daily Herald that struggling forward Sergei Samsonov is having a hard time staying in the line-up because he can’t play on the team’s top-two lines.

“For Sammy to be effective he has to play in the top six forwards,” Denis Savard said. “If you look at who I use in the top six for now, it’s pretty tough for him to crack that position. He’s been a real pro and understands.”

Speculation is that the Blackhawks may try to trade or waive Samsonov and his $3.5 million contract if he doesn’t get his act together.

I doubt Tampa Bay is gonna trade St.Louis for just Turco. If a deal were to go down then TBay would obviously expect Turco as well as Jokinen or a top prospect.

  2. mojo19 says:

No way. I disagree completely with that. Turco for St.Louis straight up is fair. Turco is basically as good as it gets for goalies, he'd be more valuable to Tampa Bay then St.Louis is. And Dallas could afford this trade because Mike Smith is basically the best back up goalie in the NHL.

  3. Pronger44 says:

Ummm St. Louis is a Stanley Cup Winner, Art Ross Award Winner, and Turco has accomplished exactly what in Dallas…. so I'm gonna have to disagree with you.

If this is true I hope SJ is interested in Samsonov. I would be ok losing Bernier, or even Marleau, if Thornton and Samsonov could produce like they did in Boston. Not saying straight up, just a deal involving either of those players would be acceptable to complete a proven combo.

It looks like Stoll is just not gonna work out in Edmonton. Great on faceoffs, hard shot and  pretty good hockey sense. I've heard Brule's name mentioned as a possibility… Stoll has been bitten by the injury bug a little bit but didn't Brule break his leg? Who breaks their leg?! Band aids do so I hope Lowe looks elsewhere.

To Chicago    :  Torres , Stoll , Smid
To Edmonton : Samsonov, Seabrook , Koci
Chicago is back in the playoffs with a glass slipper and Lowe has a little more cap room this summer to sign Pitkanen, Gilbert and ofcourse Seabrook.

trust me, you dont' want samsonov on your team, he's not worth it, he couldn't crack montreal's line up and was a nightmare last year, and can't do it in chicago either, if you're gm trades for this guy, then you're in trouble, he's just a figure skater who skates around like an idiot, trust me on this one, this guy is done in the nhl

  7. darcysucker says:

i have to mention this again, that trade can't happen cause samsonov is worth absolutely nothing, montreal was trying to trade him all of last year, no one wanted him, and his contract is too high, sorry blackhawk fans but you're stuck with him till his contract runs out, unless you buy him out, by the way that trade is really lopsided

  8. mojo19 says:

St.Louis is a great player, but Tampa's offense wouldn't suffer that much without him, they'll still be able to score. Turco would win them more games, as you and I both know goaltending is the most important position in hockey, and if you can land a top end goalie like Turco, you have to make that trade. Turco would put Tampa near the top of the East instead of near the bottom.

By the way, if you watched any of the Dallas-Vancouver playoff series last year I don't think there's any way you can say Turco isn't a top 3 or 4 goalie in the NHL. He's amazing. Only 1 team wins the cup every year, you can't get on a guy who's been in the league for, what 6 years? Just because he hasn't won a cup doesn't mean he's not great.

  9. Pronger44 says:

What are you talking about. Tampa's offence will just a tee weeny bit suffer when one of the Big Three do part away, unless someone decides to step into St. Louis's spot when he is traded. And as for Turco, yeah he played well against the Canucks, did he win the series, NO, so like I said already, what exactly has TURCO ACCOMPLISHED, NOTHING, ZITTO, NO AWARDS, NO CUPS, NOTHING, so don't even think Tampa's dumb enough to trade St. Louis for JUST Turco, not happening.

  10. darcysucker says:

I must say I watched the Dallas/Vancouver series last year, and Turco was amazing, I had him on my fantasy pool, I think he might've even been better than Luongo in that playoff series, he's definately a top 5 goalie in the league, and look at his record he's had, he's had 3 straight 35+ win seasons and good GAA and save percentage stats the last few years, he's definately worth trading for St-Louis, maybe Turco and a pick or a decent player for St-Louis

  11. CDyer says:

Sorry but Chicago would be nuts to move Seabrook!

Brule is not going to to Edmonton and if he does Lowe would be crazy to ship Torres or Stoll for just Brule, there better be a 1st round pick there as well.

Samsonov just isn't doing it ANYWHERE… What the heck happened to this guy??? But then again who signs someone to 3.5m after that season he had in Montreal? Samsonov would be a good fit in Washington if he could convert to the right side.

  12. Garny says:

i agree but gainey signed him to a 2 or 3 year deal i think worth 3.5 mill per if i am correct…but gianey signed him to the deal after he helped edmonton to the finals…he has really fallen of his game last 2 years thats for sure…hope he cna get back on top and regain his calder trophy form because he's exciting to watch

  13. prayin-for-the-wce says:

3 straight 35+ win seasons is nothing anymore. Dan CLoutier had that.  Does that make him top 5?

  14. mojo19 says:

Cloutier is brutal, he's a minor league back up so I don't see your point. He won some games but was never a good goalie. And ya, Turco outplayed Luongo in the playoffs last year, is it his fault he couldn't also score the goals?

This conversation is over, Pronger44 you're hopeless.

  15. turdfergusson says:

Samsonov is an UFA after this year so he can go fly a kite come summer which is probably what he will do so he's basically a bag of pucks with a Jersey .  So the deal is basically Stoll, Torres and Smid for Seabrook and Koci.  Lopsided for who?

  16. NHLSlayer says:

everywhere I go, I get to laugh at Pronger's assumptions.

It would easy be Tampa that would have to throw something in to get this deal done.  Bonafide number 1 goalies don't come along every day, meanwhile, St. Louis has been struggling since the lockout to regain ANY of the punch he had in his ONE glorious year, but is looking more and more ordinary each day.

Tampa needs to unload St. Louis quickly, as his value diminishes with every game he plays.

  17. NHLSlayer says:

Seabrook won't be moved out of Chicago, especially for the garbage offered in this proposal…

While all are decent players on Edmonton, they would be going to a team with real NHL'ers, a team that is much harder to crack.

    shitty trade for edmonton
