Why Stars GM Jim Nill is going to be leery of going all-in for veterans before NHL trade deadline

Nill is a wily executive who has pretty much made over the entire Stars roster in his 33 months on the job, so he is not afraid to pull the trigger on a big deal. But he also knows that building the youth of the team can bring dividends that last for years.

The focus of any team seeking to trade with the Stars will be young defensemen and young forwards. Dallas has three young defenseman on the NHL roster in Patrik Nemeth, Jamie Oleksiak and Jyrki Jokipakka. They have two more in the AHL who could be ready to move up in Esa Lindell and Stephen Johns. They have young NHL forwards in Janmark and Valeri Nichushkin, as well as AHL forwards in Radek Faksa, Curtis McKenzie, Brett Ritchie, Jason Dickinson and Devin Shore.
