Stars Shopping Fabian Brunnstrom

The Edmonton Journal is reporting the Dallas Stars are reportedly looking to acquire a puck-moving defenseman for Fabian Brunnstrom. The Stars are believed to be looking for an upgrade to their powerplay, but the paper suggests they refuse to trade forwards James Neal and Loui Eriksson. According to the Journal, the Stars would be willing to trade winger Fabian Brunnstrom.

Brunnstrom, 24, was highly coveted by a number of teams last summer including the Maple Leafs and was reportedly very close to being signed by previous Vancouver Canucks GM, Dave Nonis, who is now Senior V.P of Hockey Operations for the Toronto Maple Leafs. I wouldn’t be suprised if the Leafs still had interest in him, after a decent 17 goals and 12 assists for 29 points last year including a hat trick in his debut.

He currently has one year left on his $850,000 contract with bonus incentives that could increase his salary to US$2.5 million

I would actually look into getting Brunnstrom
    it really wouldnt hurt
maybe a package of White and Hayes
or maybe when Van Ryn has a good streak of games
    anything could help the offense

    Brunnstrom sucks.

Well he did score a hat trick in his NHL debut, but he doesn't seem to fit in in Dallas, and has struggled to be consistant. But definitely I would take a shot at him at this point.

17 goals in 55 games last season is a pace for 24-25 goals over 82 games, which is a pretty good rookie year. And he has 2 assists in 4 games so far this year. He could be a pretty productive guy and he's still 24. For the right price I'd take him for sure.

leafs continue to talk about getting this,  trading that.

    how bout playing hockey.

they continue to plug in new pieces and have no chemistry.

  7. mojo19 says:

ya they don't have good chemistry, maybe they need to get some different pieces.

Brunnstrom is a floater. He's exactly the type of player the Leafs DON'T need.

You guys talking about trading Beauchemin or ian White + Jimmy Hayes are cracked.

It was a dig at Beauchemin, not a legit proposal.

And Hayes is a flop. Tough to say cuz he's just 20, but at age 17 he was a point per game (14 in 14) with the US under-18 National team (NAHL), then at age 18 he went down to 10 points in 19 games (only 2 goals), and he dropped in the draft a lot. Then last year he struggled with Boston College and was playing 3rd line by the end of the year (13 pts in 36 games).

The silver lining is that apparently he's adjusted his game from power forward to more of a defensive specialist, so with his huge 6'6" frame maybe he could become an NHL'er one day as a shut down forward. But if you can't score at the lower ranks you don't have a great shot to make it.
