    Holy sh……

Ok, well..i guess Lindros did not want to change his contract and teams did not want his contract either. Thanks for the stay, good one season….thanks for the charity in NYC.

The Flyers have 100% won the Lindros trade now, unless the Rangers just declined his player option to work on a new contract with him. Highly unlikely.

  2. jaydensleafs says:

now someone came get lindros for almost nothing….like 3 mil a year……someone will take him..

  3. nskerr says:

How can a team decline a player’s option? If the player decides he will exercise it, the team is obligated to pay him even if they release him.

  4. mikster says:

They basically bought him out, $2.2M.

And a team can overrun a player’s option, but there’s more to it. Not sure how it goes.

Hey, players always get the advantage and have been for years, give some advantages to the teams.

WHERES YOUR MOMMY NOW BITCH!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Cyrax89 says:

Ok that all good, but when the hell is someone going to sign someone?

  8. aaron says:

Have you not been paying attention? I’d be surprised if any of the big names are signed before August. Some of them may still be jobless in training camp, if they don’t drastically lower their demands.

    This ain’t like previous years.

  9. titans says:

Philadelphia Flyers.com is saying theres a press conference at 2:30 to announce breaking news!!!!!

    (LECLAIR FOR CUJO??)

  10. Stuv_Dogg says:

Please, Philly fans, I know you’re excited, but please don’t think that you’ve just acquired a goaltender that will put you over the top for the Stanley Cup.

What you actually have is the excuse for next year’s first round playoff exit.

This guy isn’t hot shit. He was 15-17-2, 2.86GAA last year with Boston and Montreal. Okay, I hear you say that they weren’t the best teams in the league, certainly not as good as your Flyers. But look at his career, his record is a poor 156-234-50. He hasn’t proven to be a consistent winner anywhere he has played.

If I were you guys, I would have looked for Cujo. He’s better than Hackett, might be had for a song from Detroit and will have something to prove next year.

Oh well. I guess this Hackett signing at least means that there will be plenty of good whine coming out of Philly for the next two years.

    Cheers to that!

  11. sluggo says:

Quinn has always had a hard on for Lindros and will probably take him off waivers or as a free agent.

  12. Stuv_Dogg says:

I don’t know. Why does it matter to you?

And please don’t call me bitch. I don’t feel we know each other that well.

  13. Sands says:

Nice i like it… Lindros’s 9 million in bounes money is gone. But we need a Center-men….. Who could be around for 9 million…… hummmmmmmm Fedorov??????? maybe….. but i’ll tell ya now. Sather can’t start the season without a number 1 center… so this should be a fun offseason.

  14. Hockeyman93 says:

Well, no surprise here. Sather is obviously trying to swing a deal for either Cujo or Jagr, or to sign Federov. I have little doubt that Lindros will become a UFA and most likely, as cautious the Leafs should be this summer, the Leafs will be front runners for Lindros. This also puts an end to any speculation of a Neiuwendyke signing. Lindros will probably demand 4-5 million a year. I don’t know if this is a good move for the Leafs, but it’s obvious that Quinn likes Lindros, and Lindros, like 3 years ago when he was still a Flyer, will claim Toronto as his first choice.

Though I still think Kariya would be a better fit, and Lindros would hamper Nik Antropov’s development, it would be a good bet to think Lindros will don 88 for the Buds next year. This also means 1 of Gilmour/Green will be gone.

  15. calflyers says:

    eat a dick

we’ve been to 7 cup finals (since ’67), won two, and have had many great seasons (of course dissapointments also)

but i’d rather have a REAL team instead of a LOSER like Toronto

one “semi final” in how long?????

Hackett is not gonna hurt Philly

don’t give me “Cuchoke” either – he’s past his prime

Who else was out there really?

The Flyers are gonna hope in two years that one of their “farm goalies” pan out

  16. Goldenscud says:

HACKETT SUCKS!!!!!!!!! We are not a .500 team – we are a “cup contender” or at least closer to that. Why the hell does our General Manager have such an aversion to addressing the goaltending???????

This team has always failed because Clarke never addresses the most important position in hockey.

So now, we have injury prone, average Hackett along with unproven Esche. Sorry but JS Gigueres only come along about once every 10 years.

I guess I am going to have to be a leaf fan. GO LEAFS GO!!!

  17. brewstar03 says:

Scott Nichol signed with the Blackhawks, who had been previously with the Flames. Also, Chicago re-signed Shawn Thornton.

  18. UsedandAbused says:

The Cup is ours! No body can beat us now that we have HACKET!!!! – God help us!

  19. Thehockeygod says:

Ive been away from this site along time but had to see what Flyers fans had to say about this one. Im a hockey/Flyers fan who cant stand my fellow Flyers fans (mainly because they fall lock step with our moron GM).

I think Clarkes exact quote today was –

“our scouting staff, our coaching staff, our whole organization feels that Jeff Hackett will give us the solid and steady goaltending that we will need to take a run at the Stanley Cup,”

If this is how they feel now, why didn’t they get him the numerous other times he was free or available?

This guy smokes good stuff. 35 year old, career mediocre, 15 year pro and never considered a top or second tier goalie and hes gonna lead us to the cup!

Should have gotten BUDDY HACKETT instead. Woulda been cheaper and would have given us the same chance to win the cup!

    THG

  20. mikster says:

Well, he is not a bad goalie. He is injury prone and he has never played ‘tops’ in the playoffs though.

Still, i think it was a horrible move by the Flyers. Hackett can get it done in the regular season….

    BUT THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!!???????

  21. aaron says:

Oh…Clarke’s nuts roasting over an open fire…

Hehe, this is so freakin’ funny. Cechmanek’s not looking so bad now, is he Flyers fans? Hahahaha, so when’s the lynching party?

Ah, you know, looking at the Avs and Flyers, it really makes the Wings goaltending “problems” look pretty damn nice. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

  22. sluggo says:

The leafs have been to 2 conference finals in the last 5 years.

The flyers are a loser team run but a big, whinny loser that survives on a 25 year old “tough team” reputation.

  23. Goldenscud says:

You are right – he is not a bad goalie but not a goalie that a cup contender should be getting. Clarke waited a whole 12 hrs to make this decsion. Hackeet has won a total of 3 lousy playoff games. Give me back Checkmanek!

  24. Goldenscud says:

Are you fn kidding me? Excited? This signing sucks and most Flyers fans think so, so don’t give tell me that we are getting excited.

As for the whining? The Maple Leafs fn blow and that was realized a couple of months ago. F Toronto – it’s not even the capital of your country, let alone the capital of the hockey world.

  25. sluggo says:

Torontos not the hockey capital of the world? LOL. No, not all. Its just the only city with good hockey ratings, home of the hall of game, an orginal 6 team and ref. center (whenever a call goes to video replay, the decision is being made in Toronto). Thats like saying New York isn’t the baseball capital.

  26. calflyers says:

    big deal two

    Toronto is going NOWHERE

    The Flyers have a plan

We are doing what we should have done in ’91 and listen to Hitchpenis

We just drafted “Thornton and Ricci” with “Lidstrom jr. and Jim Watson” on the way

  27. boborr4 says:

the Jeff Can’t Hackett signing reminds me of the Beezer signing of a few years back, except Beezer at least had some accomplishments on his resume.

watch Ouellet steal the job in Washington this season and Clarke will be eating dead chickens back in flin flon.

  28. golakings says:

    Potvin,Hackett or Cechmanek???

    I would choose Ceckmanek.

Sorry, Philly u cant get him back. HA HA HA

  29. OilersSuk says:

All these good free agents and my Stars arent gonna get any of them, Now I know how the Predator fans feel. You think Kariya or Federov would come to Big D for under a mil?

  30. Lint07 says:

I can’t believe everyone is surprised about Hackett going to Philadelphia…

It was written in the sky as I predicted it a month ago.

  31. WeStSiDe says:

You really are blinded, no matter what happens, your opinion always stays the same.

It’s funny how you can bash other clubs though. Thats fine.

I dont think any Flyer fan has the right to Bash Leaf fans though, givin the circumstances. However the chance of that happening is like seeing a red sky.

    BTW: Cujo, Hacket, same age.

If this is the best Clarke can do, well, good luck. He stilll hasnt got it right, why wont he just go out and get that elite goaltender? It hasnt worked for him yet. Oh well.

  32. Lint07 says:

I am not a Flyers or Kings fan and still, I would take Hackett any day of the week over Cechmanek or Potvin.

Ever heard of consistency?? Hackett is an experienced goalie that has what it takes to win, Potvin is good 1 game out of 2 and Cechmanek can’t do a lateral movement without falling on his ass…

Yup, definetely ”Hack” over ”Checko” and ”The Cat”.

  33. Lint07 says:

He’s the best goalie you’ve had in the past 5-years though…

  34. titans says:

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

You gotta be fu@kin kiddin me!!! YOU GOTTA BE FU@KIN KIDDIN ME!!! JEFF FU@KIN HACKETT??? HACKETT??? YOU GOTTA BE FU@KIN KIDDIN ME!!! WHAT THE FU@K?!?!?! WHAT THE FU@K IS THAT FU@KHEAD CLARKE THINKING?!?! HACKETT?!?!?! OHH THATS FU@KIN IT!!! THATS IT!!! I’M DONE!! FU@KIN DONE!!! I DON’T EVER WANNA SEE ANOTHER GODDAMNED FLYERS GAME AGAIN!! WHAT THE FU@K?!?! HACKETT?!?! WHAT DAMIEN RHODES WASN’T AVAILABLE?!?!?! WE COULDA HAD POSSIBLE CUJO, POTVIN, BIRON, BURKE OR A HOST OF OTHER GREAT GOALIES AND WE GET JEFF FU@KIN HACKETT?!?! HOLY $HIT!!! FU@K YOU BOB CLARKE!!! I’M DONE!!! THATS IT!! I AM NO LONGER A FLYERS FAN!! I NO LONGER WANNA EVEN HEAR ABOUT EM EVER AGAIN!! YOU GOTTA BE FU@KIN KIDDIN ME!!!!

  35. Hockey_Fan says:

OMG Hackett!?!?!!? Ok as a Flyers fan I am going to have to say it. The season is over before it even started.

  36. PeterPuck says:

Anyone who tries to bring up Hackett’s past stats does not KNOW anything about goaltending!!!!!!look at the teams he was on Islanders , San Jose, Hawks, Habs and Bruins. Except for the last team, the teams he played for were all poor teams at that time, ask any player on those teams about Mr Hackett, they will tell you he is great!!! and he is. Did you know that Roy only had 1 year where is GAA in junior was below 4.50, and that was 4.44, was he garbage, it is because he faced 60 shots a nite. Hackett will do well with the Flyers and he will bring them deep in the playoffs, mark my words. Habs Fan

  37. B-man says:

If you ask me, i think Lindros will bounce back and have a good year this year. The same thing happened with Nedved and he came back strong this year. But if he goes, oh well.

I don’t think the Rangers need another center. I think Holik or Nedved could be the first line center. All i would love the rangers to do this summer is Re-sign Leetch and sign Derian Hatcher. We could use a good tough defensman, not another offensive player. Leetch, Hatcher, Poti, Mironov, Kasparaitis, and Malakhov. Thats a pretty solid defensive core.

  38. Stuv_Dogg says:

I would agree with you if Mr. Hackett had a bad season here or there. Fine, he was on a bad team with shoddy defense and faced lots of shots every night.

But why would you say he is great? What is this based on? How many times has he taken his team on his shoulders and won a Cup? Advanced deep into the playoffs? How many individual awards has he won? How many All-Star appearances does he have under his belt?

Basically, what is the foundation for your claim that he is great? Absolutely nothing.

I think you’re great, just ask me. But you would still probably suck if you played between the NHL pipes and you’re certainly not worth $3 million per year.

Hackett is not great. Nowhere near it. He is inconsistent, injury prone, unreliable. It’s a good job Philly has a decent backup in Esche cause he’s gonna be seeing lots of time in the blue ice.

    Peace.

  39. Stuv_Dogg says:

“eat a dick”? ” … a LOSER like Toronto”? Geesh, I guess I touched a nerve there. It’s alright, calm down, take a nice deep breath.

I though Toronto made the Conference Finals in both (bare with me here) ’93 vs. LA, ’94 vs. Buffalo, and ’02 vs. Carolina? I might have the years wrong, but if I’m right, you should check your facts. I’m not disputing that Philly has had a good number of teams since ’67, shit that’s way before I was around so I don’t really care about what happened back then. All’s I know is that you’ve had powerhouse teams that have been more than capable of winning it all, but you have a dickhead GM who flatly refuses to go out and find the missing piece that would have put your team over the top.

Saying ‘Who else was out there really?’ is a bunch of crap. A good GM would make something happen. There are another 29 teams, all with a variety of #1 goalies, get creative and make something happen rather than just sit back and say ‘Who else was out there really?’. Take Biron. Get Boucher back. How about Potvin? Hedberg out of Pittsburgh might be a choice, especially since they just drafted Fleury. These aren’t the greatest goalies in the world, but I think most would agree that they are better answers than a broken down Hackett. Maybe I shouldn’t trounce on you and your fellow fans, but geez, Bobby Clarke has sucked the big one on this.

Anyways, gotta go and do some work now, whadda ya think of my Wednesday morning musings?

  40. booty says:

He was talking about lindros, you donkey…

  41. cecilturtle says:

If the Rangers lose Lindros they should be able to replace his contract with a better player for about the same money. Just like the Flyers did when they traded him to the Rangers. If the Flyers kept Lindros they would not have signed Roenick. It is for this reason that I never thought the Flyers lost this trade. As it turns out they received Roenick, Johnson, Hlavic, Brendl in exchange Lindros.

The Rangers did not lose this trade because they received Lindros for for 3 people who were not going to help them. I’m not saying they are bad players, it’s just the Rangers had a roster full of the same type players. Anyway, lets just see who the Rangers sign before we all get frustrated about the original Flyers trade. In todays age of players contracts and team budgets you really have to look at the whole roster and break it down player by player to actually see who won each trade. ie: The team got this player by trading that player and got this other player by dumping this over payed player’s salary, ect, ect, ect…

One could say Phoenix lost this trade because they lost Roenick for nothing. But one would really have to look at who they replaced his contract with. I have no idea who they replaced his contract with because I see very few of their games nor do I care. But to make a short story long… In todays game, the only way to judge a trade is by that teams success. That is why I feel the Devils have never lost a trade since 1993. Well maybe they should have resigned Lemieux, but regardless it was a good trade to go out and get him at the trade deadline.
