Subban Wants Doughty Type Money?

Before a deal can get done, the first agreement is yourself and your agent have to agree on the same things and I think we clarified everything (Monday). We know where we both stand,” said Subban, who is represented by Don Meehan of Newport Sports. “Now it’s his job to go and relay that Montreal and take it from there.

“We had a long summer to try and get things done and it didn’t happen so as far as I’m concerned, it’s out of my control. I can’t offer myself a contract. At this point now, I’m just waiting and making sure I keep myself in shape so that once I get to training camp, I’m ready to go. I’ve made it clear I want to play there and play there for a long time. My interest is nowhere but in Montreal. That’s never, ever changed and it’s never been a question. If anybody says anything different, they don’t know what they’re talking about.”

The Subban case represents the tough negotiating that must be done in a short period of time.

New Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin said Monday his goal was to have Subban signed and on the ice when training camp opened.

There was talk in Montreal on Tuesday the Subban camp could be looking for a deal similar to that signed by Los Angeles Kings defenceman Drew Doughty, who landed an eight-year deal worth $56 million. That sounds like a pretty lofty demand.

Ummmm, well he is a generational talent, so that’s fair I guess, lol. Seriously though, he will be paid, but can’t seriously expect that type of money? It makes me wonder how greedy the upper tier players will be? This new CBA, with the HRR share being lower should result in a slower growing cap. If this is the case a team that sets it self up with over all quality and quantity could actually do better.

Was reading on HF boards that TSN MTL radio has said PK will sign for 4yrs/22 million.

I think that’s the perfect contract for him in terms of money and term.

Ya I was thinking if he wanted to be a team guy, 18-19 mil over 4 would’ve been good. Like I said before I am not sure the cap will grow as fast under this CBA? Most analysts don’t, so will teams that have a few higher priced talents have a greater descrepency in the overly quality of their rosters?

let’s get him signed and if that’s what he’s being signed for it’s not alot of money it’s a pretty good deal actually! 4 yrs@22 million

I think the doughty money thing is media being media… There’s no way subban or his agent can legitimately justify those numbers… He’s hadn’t shown he’s worth that yet, so until he does, 5mil per year should be a great offer for him.. That is what’s expected anyway

Oh, for fuck… athletes sicken me. If he got a 3 year contract making 3 mill per he would have enough money to never work again and live a life of luxury. Screw these greedy pieces of shit. If any of these players actually cared about winning and the city they were in they’d take a ‘modest’ salary (by modest I mean fucking millions) and be happy where they are. Also, they could pretty much avoid ever being called overrated or a waste for the team with they just said ‘screw the norm’ and went with below their market value. It all just pisses me off.

    • TimTheBone says:

That’s exactly how everyone not making that kinda money thinks…. But if it’s all about your name on that contract, oxide you’re going to get every penny the owners at willing to pay… If someone came to you and said well pay you 5,000,000 per year.. You wouldn’t say, ” well my market value is 4.5 million but I’ll only take 2 so I seem like a modest good team player “…… That’s just insane…. Sure I hate the fact that these guys get millions of dollars for a game but if I’m in the NHL, I’m squeezing every penny I can get
