Sundin: I have no wish to move

Amid word that the Toronto Maple Leafs may be willing to trade him, forward Mats Sundin tells Toronto Sun’s Lance Hornby that he has no intentions of asking for a move out of town.

“That’s very safe to say,” Sundin said. “I didn’t sign a one-year deal last summer to (better accommodate a trade), I want to be a Leaf.”

Rumors over the week-end indicated that Sundin has received word from a few Swedish players on the Detroit Red Wings that they’d love to have him come to the Motor City and could pursue the club’s GM to swing a trade with the Leafs.

However, Sundin denied the reports and reiterated that with the no-movement clause in his contract he controls his fate. And he wishes to remain right where he is.

“I have no wish to move.”

While some believe that Sundin would have a better shot at winning the Stanley Cup elsewhere, the Swedish born player says he’s on the right team.

“It’s right here,” Sundin insisted yesterday at the club’s Easter Seals skate.
