Sutton headed to the Island!

According to the NYIslanders website, defensemen Andy Sutton has signed a 3-year deal with the team.

No financial terms have been announced but Sutton was believed to be seeking a 4M$ per year contract (can you say OVERPRICED?) when free agency began… should be interesting to find out how much he got.

Despite the money, the Islanders just got a little better.

Team still doesn't scare me though.

if mckee can get 4, sutton probably won’t be far off.

good move. its a little long for my liking, but its still a good move.

Looking pretty good right now. Maybe Markov could put us over the edge. But even without him not looking as bad as I thought we were July 2nd. If DP can stay in the net a little more and play a little better than last year we could surprise everyone.

    Isles Fans

I know a lot of Islander fans wanted Asham to sign but I think not signing him is better for us. Don't get me wrong but I loved Ash but he takes up space and I think we need to play our youth. We always have a good farm system but it seems we never get to see them. Hopefully we get to see Bergi and Tamby get some real ice time. Franz looked pretty good last year as well. Watch out this is going to be Hunter's year! 35+ goals watch and see.

    Lets go Islanders!!

you got your wish. asham signed with the devils

  6. goldman says:

I know thats why I was writing. Wish it was another team, now he's going to Kick our a** eight times next year. Still I think it's for the best.

  7. Wings19 says:

If he got 4 million Markov should be able to get at least 4.25/4.5.

  8. nordiques100 says:

a 5 minute a game player isnt going to matter much. i'd worry a bit more about parise, zajac, elias and so forth. i think the devils will be a bit more worried about their former player in guerin than the isles with asham

    It's a 3 year 9 million deal, not bad.

  10. goldman says:

I meant kicking a** as in fighting.

ah just get simon to slash him in the face

I don't think the Isles scare the Latvian Womens team

Good price IMO. Rivet got 3.5 and i dont consider him to be that much better than Sutton (actually i think sutton is better). surprised that he was out there that long. Also, surprised that names like Peca, Mike Johnson, and Alex Auld are still out there. Goaltender’s market isn’t great right now but I wouldnt mind all 3 on my team.

Besides Hunter, who have the Islanders had that came up through their system that has shown anything in recent years?

he was a 1st overall pick, and took much longer to develop then #2, and #3 picks Gaborik, and Heatley.

  17. Wings19 says:

    Ya i just read that.

  18. goldman says:

My point was we trade them before they become anything. Redden, Bertuzzi, Torres and many more were drafted by the Isles. We draft very well we just don't let them see the ice we trade them.

Beck fan as in Barry Beck one of my happiest Islander moments was seeing Beck with his arm in a sling crying after we whipped them in the 85 playoffs. Thanks for the memories!

  19. goldman says:

Goalies take longer to develop than forwards!!! Plus we had Osgood and snow there was no need in rushing his development.

Personally , I think it's this salary range that's throwing the league off course. Too many guys making 3 – 5 million that belong in the 1.5 -2.5million neighborhood. I mean this guy is making 1 mill.  more than Joni Pitkanen. (?!!?)  Not losing sleep over this but what's wrong with this picture?

  21. beckfan05 says:

And one of my fondest memories was seeing Messier roast Hextall on a breakaway in the 94' playoffs, in game four to start the second period to send the Isles home like little *****es.

robert nillson will probably score 30 goals, oh what that dumbass traded him

To bad you'll only have one Stanley Cup memory in your life time.

Sutton is a pile of dog shit. As a Thrashers fan along as a Rangers fan, It pained me to watch this guy skate at phillips arena. He lacks any mobility.

  25. leaffansareajoke says:

I'm going to have to agree with you.  After looking at his career stats and everything, i just don't really see anything that stands out to me worth 3m a year.  From watching my team play his, he plays a physical game, and he's a tough defenseman, but i hardly feel he's worth 3m a year.  Kinda reminds me of when philly signed Rathje to 3.5m a year for no reason.

  26. beckfan05 says:

Too bad you'll never see another one with this clown owning the team

  27. Nemix says:

When i heard the sens picking up richardson..i shook my head.  After hearing of this signing, im suddenly changing my opinion.  Watch the market for defense shrink up as teams draft more defense corps in the future..leaving many but a couple elite players without a job.

  28. turdfergusson says:

I can see this being the trend for the next few years 'cause there's a void of seasoned defensive dmen in the league. (see Hamrlik 5 m/yr, Aaron Ward 2.75/yr !!! ,Kim Johnsson 5ish/yr etc…

  29. Pony says:

Elite defenseman won't have jobs because teams will draft more D? How the hell does that make sense.

  30. ryboy33 says:

i dont feel it was such a big signing
