Team Websites

Recently I have been surfing the web looking at different team websites doing research for my fantasy hockey team.

What I’ve noticed is that my team, the Buffalo Sabres has a very poor website. The information on it is very minimal and it is rarely updated.

So, since we always have opinion pieces on the site, I am asking all of you which teams have the best and worse websites.

Please give reasons for your choices.

mapleleafs.com is new and has an excellent website, when i had my modem didn’t take long to load and still had a good layout. With updated news and polls, alot of the stuff there is fan opions not all “Leafs did a good move” “Leafs won that trade” bull that many sites do. Good indepth bios on each players, even an Air canada cam where u can zoom in and out and take pictures during games. Also has trvia, facts about which leaf events in the past took place on this day. Just a site that has alot of work into it.

canadiens.com…boring not much to do website…way they do the news is spiffy, but other than that…thumbs down.

floridapanthers.com is an OK site. For breaking news its usually a day after everyone else. Take a long time to change their polls as well. They do have good segments about the players, like special chats to talk to them. Not great, but not too bad either.

    IN OTHER PANTHERS NEWS-

Looks like last years 3rd place rookie of the year, Kristian Huslieus will be out for 4-6 weeks with a strained knee. The incident occured in a colision with Byron Ritchie. Trainers at first thought it was just minor, but an MRI revieled worse. So thats 4-6 weeks. Bad news.

    canucks.com

Great site, one of the newer sites too. It has tons of info and is just a great homepage.

    mightyducks.com

Boring site, even though i like the new team

    Dallasstars.com

They have hooked players up to mics for the pre season. Chats with Modano and Guerin seems like it happens every week and a killer messager board… but mainly the covarage is just awesome

  7. Aves21 says:

coloradoavalanche.com is not very good. It is updated very rarley and kinda boring.

  8. Habfan1234 says:

My team’s site is quite boring. Their is not much content to the site but they have a good team news section. One of the best sites out their is canucks.com. It looks good and a lot of info can be gleaned from the site.

  9. bruinsfan12 says:

Bruins have an okay website..they suck cause they got Shields to do a journal but nobody cares about him

  10. marcop says:

what is a good site for the penguins?

  11. saiklo says:

pittsburghpenguins.com is the best and most technologically advanced website in the league. With a plethora of features and content, it has long been recognized as the best NHL team site.

  12. SabresFanB says:

You are right about the Sabres website….it blows

  13. cwhockey says:

Thrashers website is pretty much par for the course. If your looking for info on the team, its great. If you are looking for loads of fantastic features (which in my opinion aren’t all that necessary), then the site is average.

    ANA: 4: very uninteresting

    ATL: 8: very organized

BOS: 3: They are even cheap with the site? Looks like a site from Geocities.com

    BUF: 4: uninteresting, too simple.

CGY: 9: very cool, very informative, quite fancy.

CAR: 6: Very simple, quite “cute” and seems to be interactive once their forums and chats are online.

CHI: 4: Not really updated. Home site is cool, after that there’s nothing much.

COL: 4: Neat, but very boring.

CBS: 7: Very cool for an expansion team site.

    DAL: 6: Pretty cool overall.

DET: 8: Very interactive. Neat. Informative.

EDM: 4: Very uninteresting and dull. Nothing flashy about it

FLA: 3: Used to be cool. Now it’s lame…nothing cool about it.

LA : 7: Nothing flashy, but a lot of stuff to do. Games….and good facts. Thumbs up for this one.

MIN: 7: Quite fun for an expansion team, very nice.

MTL: 7: Very cool actually. Bilingual, informative, colorfull home site. Other links of the site are nice.

NSH: 2: Won’t make me want to see it again. Way too lame and uncared for.

NJD: 8: Nicely set up. Colorfull, and keeps Devils fans busy; interactive. Two Thumbs up.

NYI: 6: Ugly Ice Girls. Too simple, not a lot of fun. Quite organized though.

NYR: 8: A lot of things to look at. Quite interactive. Nothing flashy. Very very very informative. Could keep you very busy for a while. You might get lost. A bit disorganized.

OTT: 8: Simply built, but a lot of fun. Very informative on the organization (depth is a nice addition). Nice multimedia. Kept simple, but with much to look at.

PHI: 7: Simply built. A lot of stuff to look at, very informative. Once done looking at it, you feel like you wanted to see more.

PHO: 2: No fun, way too simple, nothing exciting.

PIT: 10: AWESOME!!! Extremely fancy, excellent work. Very interactive. Do not choose the HTML version. This site will impress the second you open it, and the last second you see it. Excellent web site.

SJ : 5: Not much fun. Very, and too, simple. Very uninteresting.

STL: 6: Pretty cool. Once the site fully uploads, you have a lot of scrolling to do. Many links of the team though. Kept simple.

TB : 5: Nice intro, gives you three useless links though. Nicely set up. Cool intro, but the rest isn’t thrilling. Not too shabby.

TO: 9: Excellent site. A lot of fun, extremely interactive, very flashy and neat.

VAN: 8: Very flashy and impressive. Very cool compared to other sites.

WSH: 5: Did they change this for Jagr too? Boring, not much fun at all.

As far as the players online, that may be alright, but the site itself isn’t that great. Just looking at the screen it’s rather boring IMO. I’ve looked at many other sites and many of them have moving screens and sound yet the Dallas Stars is this just plain boring screen. Half of it’s advertisements and only half of it you can move up and down. You have the bottom half inch that stays as an add for the Rangers, Rodeo, Ticket.com, and Dallas Starcenter. That gives less space to see as the regular site.

  16. Blueandwhite says:

The Canucks website is great for info, but its really crappy to find what your actually looking for.

  17. nskerr says:

The Isles website has a lot of good info and is updated frequently, but is boring to look at compared to many other team sites.

  18. saiklo says:

Actually, Washington did change their website for 68 when they traded for him!

  19. canucklehead says:

Actually the Canucks have several very good websites. Try http://www.canucks.com, http://www.canuckscentral.com, http://www.canuckscorner.com, and my personal favorite – www2.mybc.com/sports/canucks/ .

For all teams I think Faceoff.com is by far the best.
