Totally agree. Phaneuf, Schenn and Gardiner will be the blueline for the next 10+ years. The rest are bound to eventually take more money elsewhere, and Burke has to be smart enough to let that happen. As long as their are a steady stream of well developed D prospects, we will be okay.

Personally, I would hang onto both of these guys unless I get a sweet deal. I really think having these two on the back end is a great thing for Burkey. There's potential to build a winner around these guys and Dion as the core of the blueline.

The question then becomes, who do you trade; Schenn, or Gardiner? (if given the choice of course) For me, its really tough. Schenn is definitely a heart and soul part of this team going forward, and, this year's struggles aside, I think he is going to be one of the top shutdown forces of his generation. However, when you look at Gardiner hustle up and down the ice you know that he is gonna be something special. His hockey sense, speed, and passing ability are all top notch. He has the speed to join the rush, make pinches and contribute offensively, and still be able to jet back and get into position.

At the end of the day, I would trade Schenn. I love his game, but I think Gardiner's skill set is far harder to come by.

I agree. The reason the Ducks wouldn't want Gardiner is because there would always be comparisons of what they gave up.

It would be like if Boston had traded us Seguin last year for Kaberle in lieu of Colborne and a 1st.

I doubt the Ducks would take Gardiner back, his value would be waaaaay too high right now and he would only reduce the Ducks' return plus the fact that they don't want to compare a huge deal like the Ryan trade directly to the Beauchemin fleecing. Maybe not though.

The Ducks are almost certainly going to ask for either Schenn or Gardner to be pieces in any deal.

Don't even think about Kulemin + Kadri. Just saying, before people start posting that.
