NEW YORK POST:

Larry Brooks reports the Oilers are in talks with the Rangers, Bruins and Penguins regarding Tom Poti. Brooks believes Lowe “may be willing to take (Radek)Dvorak and Bryan Berard or (Mike)Mottau for the puck-moving defenseman and either Mike Grier or Todd Marchant.”

EDMONTON SUN:

Robin Brownlee reports defenceman Tom Poti’s days as an Edmonton Oiler could soon be at an end. Speculation has Oilers GM Kevin Lowe talking to his counterparts in New York and Pittsburgh about a possible trade. It’s believed Lowe is interested in either Mike York or Radek Dvorak from the Rangers. There was talk of his seeking either Robert Lang, Milan Kraft or Andrew Ference from the Penguins, but Brownlee reports “sources” claim they’re not who Lowe is targeting. The reporter gets into trade speculation, suggesting Lowe package Poti and struggling forward Jochen Hecht to the Rangers for York and promising young defenceman Tomas Kloucek, or rugged forward Georges Laraque to Dallas for Brendan Morrow. Brownlee believes only Mike Comrie, Ryan Smyth, Eric Brewer and Tommy Salo are “untouchable”.

NEWSDAY:

Alan Hahn reported on Sunday Edmonton Oilers defenceman Tom Poti has had enough of the booing from Edmonton fans and has requested a trade. According to Hahn, Oilers GM Kevin Lowe has agreed to honour Poti’s trade request.

PAVEL BURE

NEW YORK POST:

Larry Brooks reports the NY Rangers are continuing talks with the Panthers regarding Bure, but apparently GM Glen Sather doesn’t want to part with a lot in return.

MIAMI HERALD:

David J. Neal also commented on the Bure speculations, suggesting only the NY Rangers and possibly the Colorado Avalanche could be serious bidders for the services of the “Russian Rocket”. Neal dismissed the notion of Bure going to Dallas, saying the reported trade package from the Stars of Lagenbrunner, Morrow and a draft pick was “a Florida request,” and there was no offer on the table of Jason Arnott and Brian Rafalski from the New Jersey Devils, who probably would be loath to take on a one-dimensional player with a huge contract. Neal believes the powerful Detroit Red Wings have no need for Bure. The reporter suggests the Rangers could do it, as they have the deep pockets and the players to swing the deal, and that the Avalanche always seem to swing unexpected deals for big-name players around this time of year.

FACEOFF.COM:

Michael Russo reports on the potential returns for the Florida Panthers if they trade forward Pavel Bure by the deadline.. He believes it’s “doubtful” the Panthers could get forward Brendan Morrow and Jamie Langenbrunner from Dallas. The asking price from the Rangers could be “(Mike) York and a defenceman”, while it would be Pavel Datsyuk and Jiri Fischer from the Red Wings. They have interest in New Jersey centres Jason Arnott or Scott Gomez and defenceman Brian Rafalski. Russo also reports it’s possible Pavel’s brother, Valeri, could become trade bait, as he may not take too well to his brother getting dealt. The Panthers are believed to still be interested in Buffalo centre Chris Gratton. Russo claims other Panthers who could be shopped are Trevor Kidd, Lance Pitlick, Jeff Norton, Olli Jokinen, Bill Lindsay, Peter Worrell and Joey Tetarenko.
