The Latest Rumors from the Ottawa Sun

Mike Ziesberger from the Ottawa Sun breaks down the latest rumors (mostly the ones that we have heard about before) but also provides some new tidbits about other players who could be moved.

One of the first things that it’s mentioned is that it does not appear that the Wings will acquire a goalie for the stretch as Osgood is likely to return to form.

It is noted that the Blues are “making it difficult on themselves when it comes to Tkachuk. After defeating the Dallas Stars 3-1 Thursday, the Blues were three points back of a playoff spot and might want to keep Tkachuk for post-season run … Blues would like to deal defenceman Jay McKee, but his $4 million US salary makes that difficult.”

HTR notes that some of the large salaries that teams have handed out in the pasty are starting to come back to haunt teams. McKee is a classic example. In past years teams may have lined up for a player of his caliber for the playoff drive but now tams have to manage their cap very carefully.

It is also reported that the Oilers may be looking at the likes of Kovalev or Tim Connoly. It is well known that the Oilers covet a top 6 forward.

In Tampa Bay players such as “Mark Recchi, Marek Malik and Vinny Prospal could be available.” HTR feels that Prospal could be a good addition to any team at the right price and finally “Ottawa Senators GM Bryan Murray is expected to try to move defenceman Filip Kuba and right winger Chris Neil.”

Kaberle for Plekanec, McDonagh and a 2nd 2010

  2. blaze says:

    you would want Plekanec?

  3. Stubbs25ca says:

kaberle for Pleanekc 2nd and Macdonah .. .. lol to the ablove poster .. i wouldtn do that trade straight up plecks for Kaberle. We allready have a better verson of kaberle allready his name is MArkov and a 2nd rounder and MAcdonah who could turn out to be a dynamite player . stupid the stuff i hear on here sometiems .. who ever would give up that much for kaberle is an idiot . he is a very good puck moving d man but he doesnt hit and he doesnt have a very good shot , he has an accurate one but its not very hard ..

    Reasitic trade here

higgins, Dandeault,Stewart and 2nd rounder for Oli Jokinen

  4. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

    player, prospect, pick

    what player would you want?

  5. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

"i wouldtn do that trade straight up plecks for Kaberle."

well at least your not biased. Considering Kaberle has more ppg than plecs (and kabs is a defenseman), I think you should seriously question that statement.

"allready have a better verson of kaberle allready his name is MArkov"

well better is arguable, but the argument that they are the same type of player is valid. However, the habs have 1 defenseman with more than 25 points (leafs have 2, as an example). Theres no question that kaberle would give a boost to unerachieving hab forwards, such as higgins.

"he is a very good puck moving d man but he doesnt hit and he doesnt have a very good shot , he has an accurate one but its not very hard"

his shot injured sundin for 2 weeks a few years back. He just doesn't shoot. at all. But he doesn't need to, as he causes so many goals with quick breakouts and slick passes from the point.

"higgins, Dandeault,Stewart and 2nd rounder for Oli Jokinen"

dandenault and stewart are worthless so its higgins for a 2nd and Jokinen. and you mock ME for stupid trades.

  6. HABSSTAR says:

No thanks.  Kaberle is a good D-man but not the type Montreal needs right now.  Plus any trade for a D-man that Montreal makes will involve wingers not a centre.  Habs are short enough on those already.

  7. blaze says:

well seeing as I don't see Kaberle as a good fit for Montreal and there is really no roster player really that appealing for the Leafs to acquire. Pacioretty does look promising but falls more under the prospect category.

  8. blaze says:

or take Dandenault and flip him off to a contender for a mid to late pic

  9. pezzz123 says:

I'd say Pacioretty, McDonagh and 1rst rounder 010.

  10. hockeylegend488 says:

    how about this one
    to montreal -jordan stall
to pittsburgh Kovalev + chris higgins

montreal finnaly gets a quality centerman,
pittsburgh gets a winger to play between rather crosby or malkin and guy who can be a third liner like stall for considerably less cap space

  11. pezzz123 says:

    Kramer? Barahir? Lafleur10 perhaps?

  12. pezzz123 says:

not a bad idea, but add a top pick or top prospect going Pittsburgh's way. Don't forget Kovalev is UFA and Higgins RFA.

  13. hockeylegend488 says:

or trade koivu for a first and second rounder and in the off season trade those pics plus the two we have for like a jason spezza type player to play along side the newly aquired jordan stall lol

  14. blaze says:

Ok so Washington beats Boston this afternoon. Is there any more of a perfect fit in the league for Kaberle than Washington? Everything fits, this team is the real deal now.

Out of Kaberle's list of 10 teams all of them are supposedly in the East. Washington has the cap space and look at the Capitals current top 6 for point production. After Green's amazing 56 pts it drops to Poti's 13 pts.

Get Green(who is a goal scorer) a true offensive, pass first defensemen in Kaberle to man the PP with him and the numbers would be sickening.

A PP unit of Ovie-Backstrom-Semin with Kaberle-Green at the point would likely surpass Detroit for tops in the league. For Green 100 pts could be in reach and expect 70 and above for Kaberle. Not to mention the whole unit would be locked in for two more years.

Washington has the assests to acquire Kaberle no doubt.  I think Alzner and 1st would be fair and if Washington has anyone they want to get rid of they can throw them in as well.

Even though Alzner has loads of potential he's still likely a few years away from hitting that potential and like I said earlier the Caps are ready to compete now and they wouldn't be throwing away the future. Kaberle sticks around for 2 more years puts up top 5 offesive numbers for a dman for 2 years than likely extands seeing as how he's only 30 he likely has many good years left.

  15. Kramer says:

All the Habs trades proposed are pending approval from the Montreal mafia! They get a big chunk of the pie, you better believe it.  Not to mention the bribes and kickbacks funneled back to the loan sharks and underground gambling rackets.

  16. habs_fan_81 says:

No thanks why would we want kaberle. I seriously hope that bob doesnt trade for him, we have markov no need for kaberle, we need a bid solid dman who can shoot, which is definately not kaberle

  17. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

wow, i cant believe i never saw that, but its so true.

Teams like the habs would likely be better off with the bouwmeester/pronger types as well.

  18. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

true say, I was largely operating on the basis of the rumor (which is probably wrong).

  19. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

to be honest, thats along the lines i was thinking, but i shorted it in places so as not to have the hab fans (who think every player is gold) assault me.

  20. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

    ok, new hypo:

    A. Kost, MacD, and a 1st

  21. Plekanec says:

You are what we call"the product of years of inbreeding", No GM out there would trade Pacioretty straight up for Kaberle let alone throw McDonagh and a 1st rounder in the mix!

It's like your a mix of Dandoeagle and Kramer, by that I mean you have no hockey knowledge and all you do is answer by "LOL" or some other retarded comments that never makes sense. Try not using "LOL" so much, as only a moron laugh that much sitting by himself in front of his PC, Idiot!

  22. broc says:

I agree with this proposal… Kaberle for Alzner and a 1st.

Or substitue the 1st for Eric Fehr.

  23. blaze says:

I just noticed it today. Even if Alzner left they still have a very good dman prospect in John Carlson and imagine if Pronger did land in Boston?

The pressure would definately be on Washington to accquire a big gun and Kaberle makes much more sense for Washington than going after Bouwmeester.

  24. Plekanec says:

Nothing compare to you Leafs fans who think Antropov would of been the most attractive forward by the deadline?I recall you flapping your gum saying how Antropov was the best forward available, blahblahblah," News Flash" Kris Kunitz as already been traded and it's not even the deadline yet, BTW Kunitz is twice the player Antropov will ever be!

PS; Good luck trying to get rid of all the garbage in Toronto Blake, Toskala, Kubina, Moore…..I could go on all day but you guys(Leafs Fans) have suffered enough for the past 50 years and by now the whole world knows that the Leafs team has to be one of the poorest managed pro team on the planet!

But I know it doesn't affect you guys as you are OK with mediocrity!

  25. pezzz123 says:

    right on the spot.

I think McPhee could use this trade to shed Nylander's salary and acquire Matt Stajan for the 3rd line instead.

    To TO : Nylander, Alzner, Bouchard, 1rst 09, 2nd 010.

    To Was : Kaberle, Stajan, 3rd 09.

  26. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

“Nothing compare to you Leafs fans who think Antropov would of been the most attractive forward by the deadline?”

I hate more than anything else, being misquoted. I said, Antropov may very well be the best forward dealt at the deadline when it is all said and done. Antropov is better than kunits, statisticly and on the ice. Kunits started the season without a point in his 1st 8 games.

“PS; Good luck trying to get rid of all the garbage in Toronto Blake, Toskala, Kubina, Moore”

Toskala will get another shot next year, and the rest are playing well. you’re blowing off steam, and looking like an idiot while doing it. just calm down.

“Leafs team has to be one of the poorest managed pro team on the planet!”

management has made 1 trade since it was hired, so i’m not sure where you get that from.

  27. HABSSTAR says:

If we could fit him under the cap I'd do it.  I'd want some guarantees that Mrs Pronger doesn't pull the plug on his stay in Montreal the second he starts going to the peelers too much though.  LOL!

In all seriousness though I'd do that trade.

  28. HABSSTAR says:

"I hate more than anything else, being misquoted."

Really?  More than anything?  Well as a example her are just a few things I hate more then being misquoted:

    a) the clapp;
    b) toothy blowjobs; and
    c) having to watch the movie "the Notebook" in order to get some action from a chick only to end up with both a) and b) referenced above.

While this is not an exhaustive list I hope it helps shed light on your situation, and shows you that there are much worse things in the world besides being misquoted.

  29. Rico420 says:

Can you explain to me why Dandenault would seal this deal?

  30. Kyleton says:

Okay, Burke has to start getting rid of some of these guys the leafs are starting their annual late push up the standings only to fall short.  7 points out of 8th now… Not good Burky
