The Leafs and their fans desire to sign a Stanley Cup…

So with all of the “The Leafs need to sign……” posts lately; it has triggered my thoughts on one important point:

Didn’t you learn your lesson back in the Pat Quinn era?

You fans need to be patient and let your farm system develop. Sure it’s nice to sign someone in the off-season but all these posts about signing all sorts of forwards and back-up goalies and more defensemen are ludicrous.

It’s ok to not make the playoffs for a couple years; you know…for the sake of building…let that set in………………………………..it’s called “BUILDING”.

To the Leafymcleafs out there that want instant and perfect results every game I say relax, sit back and enjoy watching a team grow for once. You don’t need to sign each and every free agent out there and then three months later b*tching about them underachieving.

You whined about it back in 2001 when Guerin, Holik and Kaspiritis were all UFA’s; complaining that the Leafs needed to get them and you cried when it didn’t happen saying the Leafs don’t spend enough to win (even though they were top 4 in spending), now look at them; Guerin was just shy of a “bust” in Dallas, Holik played below average in New York and just earlier this year (and it was well over-due) Kaspiritis was put on waivers….so let me say it again “YOU DON’T NEED EVERY FREE AGENT OUT THERE TO WIN IN THE NHL”.

I for one enjoyed the Leafs season in 2006-2007, it was a heck of a lot more fun watching them work their butts off then watching a talented team lose games they should’ve won…don’t you find it more fun to watch a medium talented team work for every point? It will make winning down the road that much more enjoyable seeing guys like Wellwood and Steen starting to creep up in the point scoring race (I may be a little ahead of myself there but you know what I mean).

If they put forth the exact same team in 2007-2008 I’d be perfectly happy watching them fight and grow all over again, this team will be fine in time just let them grow.

I compare you “instant result” fans like Leafymcleaf to bodybuilders who use steroids…you have no time to build properly and logically instead you go for the quick fix and try to hide behind your band-aids.
