The Race for the Richard

The Race for the Maurice Richard Award is tight and it may come down to the wire….As of January the 1st here are the top ten goal scorers:

1. Simon Gagne 27

2. Eric Staal 25

3. Jaromir Jagr 25

4. Daniel Alfredsson 25

5. Dany Heatley 25

6. Alexander Ovechkin 23

7. Ilya Kovalchuk 23

8. Markus Naslund 21

9. Brian Gionta 21

10. Pavol Demitra 20

I feel Jagr will come out on top because he is a scoring machine and i feel guys like Gagne and Staal will hit their schnide (sp?).

What do you guys think?

I feel the top five will be:

    1 Jaromir Jagr

    2 Ilya Kovalchuk

    3 Simon Gagne

    4 Dany Heatley

    5 Daniel Alfredsson

  2. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

gionta and staal wont be in the top 10 by the end of the season i think. gionta is just having a hot start just like tucker. staal is playing to far above his abilities to far.

  3. flyersfan10897 says:

    First, Staal has 26 goals.

Second, you need to remember that Gagne has played a significantly lower number of games than the other players. He’s played in 6 less games than Staal and 7 less than Jagr. I can’t imagine him winning it, not because it’s out of the question but because he’s a Flyer and since when do Flyers win awards. However, he has 27 goals in 32 games, and hes been scoring very consistently, so you cant just assume hes going to stop.

  4. Hockey_Fan_99 says:

he has 7 less games because he was injured and thats the exact reason he wont win it because by the end of the season he will be hit by minor or not he will still miss some games he wasnt even facing the capitals yesterday because of the flu

  5. Hockey_Fan_99 says:

jagr is going to win it when happy hes a devastating offensive threat he is the best shooter in the NHL very quick and very accurate

  6. FoppaFlyers21 says:

I can’t guess the top 3…. but i think it will be Gagne, Jagr, and Heatley, in no order.

    4. Kovalchuk

    5. Naslund

    6. Alfreddson

    mark my words

  7. habswinthecup-again says:

I think Kovalchuk will win it, followed by Heatleyand then Naslund and Jagr.

  8. muckies says:

Dany heatley – he is just getting warmed up, when Spezza gets back this guy is going to light it up. If Alfie wasn’t out long term, they would tie.

  9. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

spezza and heatley did nothing together they only started clicking when alfredson came on there line. first game against the leafs they took off bochenski and put on alfreddson and then that line was never broken up and was never stopped. now that alfreddson is gone ottawa is screwed.

  10. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

when sad he is at best just below point per game player. hence last season with the rangers.

  11. wayne2 says:

Correction buddy Spezza and Heatley did click from ttraining camp and so did Bochenski whom however lost it when the season started.Alfredson is a great fit with them but even if he wouldnt be on their line they would still do great.

  12. muckies says:

WRONG. Heatley and Spezza have had great chemistry since they played on the World Junior team togther.

They have been top 5 in the leauge in scoring since the 1st game, explain that.

Alfie and them together is awesome, but they got it done with Bochenski on their wing. Bochenski had 5 points in 8 games, as a rookie, and they thought he was underproducing on that line so they sent him to Bingo.

Alfie out will hurt, but the Sens only struggled this season when Redden went down. The key to this team is their D, the best in the league, and they only struggle when either Chara or Redden are out.

Havlat, Spezza, Bochenski, Eaves are all injured and they still average 5 goals a game, its their D that makes it all happen.

  13. muckies says:

No Leaves will win that award for the next 12 years, …..OHHH WAIT….. theres a rumour Atlanta wants to trade Kovulchuk to Totonto for Whilm and Tucker…if that doesn’t work, theres a rumor coming from Belfours Ass that maybe Staal will be traded to Totonto… remember he is from Ontario… and they want Anne-Drop-Off and a low draft choice, they are doing this because this is what hockey in Totonto wants…and needs.

  14. Hockey_Fan_99 says:

    wheres totonto?

  15. tim95030 says:

I think Jonathan Cheechoo has a legitimate chance at the richard this year too. He currently is tied for 10th with 20 goals and not to mention since Joe Thornton joined the sharks he has lead the nhl in goals. Last month he was the goal scoring leader, and with thornton feeding him I think he will only get better. Anyways thats my two cents.

  16. Flyer_Dman says:

The way Foppa and Gagne play with eachother, I gotta say as long as BOTH of them stay healthy for the remainder of the season Gagne has it locked up.

However, I do not think that will happen. Kovalchuk is probably gonna get it, he is doing this well with no training camp and missing the first few weeks of games. Realistically, it will probably be..

  17. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

training camp and pre season is nothing. you think teams actually play there best. bochenski lost it in game 1. from the third period in that game till the first injury heatley spezza and alfreddson were a line.

  18. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

im not saying ottawa will struggle they have hasek so there fine. but from the third period of the first game against the leafs it was all alfreddson. he was put on there line he gets 2 goals that period. you can argue they did good in pre season but noone played there very best in pre season.

  19. muckies says:

you hit the nail on the head, Ottawa 2 years ago was a good 1st period team, now they are a good 3rd period team.

  20. toronto77 says:

WOW……your a mother *****ing idiot. First of all, all of these leaf jokes are dead because you guys use them so much and kill them,2nd of all, Toronto won’t win any awards for the next 12 years, Ottawa won’t even win the cup in the next 12 years. your name is muckies as oppose to John Muckler, He is a *****ing snob everyone in Ottawa is snobish. They think they are the best because they are Canada’s capital….well ***** you…I hope muckler gets a stroke after the sens loose in the 1st round.

  21. muckies says:

    time for your medication mister…

  24. KevinPity says:

    Gagne or Koalchuk.

Staal won’t keep up the pace, same with Alfie and Heatly, and Kovalchuk and Gange have a better shot % then Jagr. Therefore it will be one of those two.

  25. mtrakker85 says:

Dacry Tucker will use his skate to kill everyone in the league and win since he will be the only one left.

  26. mtrakker85 says:

But Gagne will walk away with this easily.

Unless he pulls a Keith Primeau and falls off the face of the earth, nobody will touch him.

  27. doanerfan says:

Just a hunch, but look for Nagy to be on the list as well. Guy has been playing awesome hockey lately.

  28. doanerfan says:

    Svatos has 20.

  29. Hockey_Fan_99 says:

If Thornton keeps playing the way hes playing hes going to turn the CheeChoo train into a 50 goal scorer he will be up there near the end of the season i9 dunno if he will be on top but he will be close

  30. RaGsHoCkEy88 says:

and remember how many multi goal games jagr has had…..hes had 2 hat tricks already and i cant even count how many multi goal games hes had….i personally attended one. soo i think if gagne, staal and company played as many games they wouldnt be too far from jagr considerring he can put the puck in the net virtually everytime hes on the ice…

  31. RaGsHoCkEy88 says:

ottawa wont win the cup?? please tell me whose gonna survive 7 games with them??

  32. RaGsHoCkEy88 says:

hes one of the most underrated….thats why on my fantasy team i took nagy, staal, and heatly cuz no one saw them……im in 1st place by 40 pts and its been like that since about day 6 of the NHL season

  33. RaGsHoCkEy88 says:

dont forget its just about halfway into the season and we have players at nearly 30 goals…were gonna see some 50-60+ goal scorers this year thank god….and jaromir jagr will be one of them…top 3 if not on top….everyone thought he was becoming a wash up….haha i laugh at them

  34. Hockey_Fan_99 says:

Ive never doubted Jagrs abilities once just his attitude! i remember watching him while he was on pittsburgh hes a true offensive force i think he has a top 5 shot ever in the NHL

  35. OldGoalie says:

Happy or sad, the guy is easily the whiniest player in the league.

  36. Hockey_Fan_99 says:

? I thought that was Lemieuxs award at least thats what non pens fans think

  37. OldGoalie says:

Once upon a time, I probably would have agreed with that. But Lemieux post-retirement doesn’t handle himself anything like the same way. Jagr, on the other hand, almost seems to get more petulant and immature with age.

  38. Mats_Sundin_13 says:

I think that it;s going to be a close scoring race but I expect it to go between Jagr and Ovechkin.

  39. tim95030 says:

Well now with one game remaining in the season it looks like my prediction was right. He was in 10th place on january 1st, but now has a two goal lead for richard on April 15th.

  40. SJ_Sharks_Fan_19 says:

    My prediction was dead on.
