The Results are In!!!!

Here are the results of the Goalie Poll I started conducting on August 17th. The final rankings are the averages of everyone who submitted a list of 30 names. You people are nuts to have Cechmanek that high. That’s seriously pathetic. Cechmanek above Luongo, Nabokov, Richter, and Joseph????

Salo all the way up there? Brodeur and Roy are perfect, but the rest….ouch….all i can say is ouch….

  2. NemiNA says:

This comming from a ranger fan. HAHA But Cechmanek deserves to be #4

  3. NewYorkRangers says:

Cechmanek at #4?!?!? I guess a lot of Flyer fans took part in this survey. and Boucher ahead of Cujo, Richter, Crazy Eddie, and Lalime? My god.

  4. edmontonrules says:

CuJo is verrrrrrrry low. So are Dafoe and Osgood.

  5. edmontonrules says:

  8. aaron says:

Geez, stop the Cechmanek ripping. That is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. He’s got like the best stats of anyone except maybe Roy over the past two seasons, but all anyone has to say about him is crap.

Now CuJo…wtf is up w/ that? Lots of disgruntled Leafs fans voting, I guess. And Boucher is the most overrated goalie in the league.

  9. Litany_Sin says:

First of all I appreciate the work you put in to figuring this out… And to start on a positive note, I like the fact that Roy is number one… and I am pretty sure I agree that Mike Dunham should be in the eighteen slot. Perhaps if you were to do just one more little study… taking into account wins, goals against average, save percentage, playoff performances, years in the league, plus/minus of the defense, performance awards, consistency, and injuries. Asking fans to rate the goalies is about as scientific as going by helmet graphics. Uh oh, helmet graphics… do I hear a late August HTR debate?

  10. laurie says:

where the hell is david aebschicer(spelling)

he should be atleast number 15 to 20.

  11. pantherboy says:

Why is Hnlicka not in the top 30? Well he should be. Everything else looks good, maybe Dunham should be a little higher, same with Cujo, but seems pretty good no the less.

  12. Bruins08 says:

If Curtis Joseph was still a Leaf he would be in the top 5. He will challenge for the Vezina this year. Now that he’s playing for a contender not a pretender….

  13. mikster says:

Over 30 years old, played what…3 seasons? I don’t think so….and talent wise he is not that good.

  14. mikster says:

Cechmanek is the most overrated goalie in the league. Playing three NHL seasons, over age 30…no way he deserves to be thta high. His best skill is his size, and that already doesn’t put him that high.

I’d put Cujo over Cechmanek any day. Boucher is still 26 and he has yet to actually be a starter. He’ll get that chance and i think he will do it.

  15. Aetherial says:

I think Joseph’s placement makes a pretty sad commentary on the objectiveness and intelligence around here.

  16. mikster says:

I like Aebischer’s skills and he is an elite Swiss goalie. But, the guy barely plays! I think he has an awesome stick side, but i ought to see him more often.

  17. Sane04 says:

wow… you can rhyme. go eat a lime 😉

  18. GloveSide says:

yeah thanks man for blaming us leafs fans on cujo’s low rating…we still like him you know

  19. habs_88_4life says:

    cause he sucks

  20. Brettsko says:

I appreciate having my work appreciated! 🙂

The study would be just as objective as anything else, because Wins depend on how good the team is, GAA is could be bad but if a S% is through the roof does that balance? A lot of the goalies also don’t get to the playoffs because of their teams. Luongo for example.

  21. Freeze says:

It’s interesting that Belfour, Richter, and Osgood have all won the Cup, yet they’re ranked way below Tommy Salo, who tanked in the Olympics and has never won anything in his life, Cechmanek, who tanked in the playoffs, and Roman Turek, who’s never done well in the playoffs. Kolzig’s, Turek’s and Luongo’s teams didn’t even qualify for the sweet 16. Cujo at #17 just doesn’t seem right to me.

Were all of the participants suffering from the West Nile virus?

  22. Freeze says:

And what has Cechmanek’s record been in the playoffs where it really counts? Are you saying Cechmanek was responsible for wins during the regular season, but he wasn’t responsible for losses during the playoffs?

  23. Freeze says:

According to this rating, your guy was not among the top 42 goalies. I agree, this poll is a joke.

  24. titans says:

Nabokov sucks??? Stop! Just stop right there.

  25. Aves21 says:

What?! Do you even watch hockey? Nabokov is in the top 5 easy.

  26. vanfan says:

let’s get this one going! trevor kidd always has a cool mask . roy , potvin , belfor , brodeur , richter all have boring ugly masks that desperately need an upgrade . i have always loved it when a goalie changes teams just because we get to see some new paint jobs . i am a goalie myself and i have always taken pride in the fact that i have a cool paint job on my mask and i usually get it re-painted every two years just to upgrade it to something new. i wonder who everyone else thinks has cool masks.

  27. BWbullies says:

Look at the stats. If you try to throw in his playoff performance. How has Richter been doing or better yet when was the last time he was in the playoffs. Since he has been here weather you like it or not he has been at the top of the list and this year with Hitch’s system he could be the top. So tell us at the end of the year when he is leading the league and your beloved Rangers are watching the playoffs on TV…….

  28. BWbullies says:

So who’s the goalie on your team. I bet Cech’s GAA is higher. So don’t just go crying just go….

  29. BWbullies says:

Well if your team was in the playoffs maybe you would have notice that the team couldn’t score a goal to save their lives and that is not his fault. If you want numbers check out his GAA and SO maybe now you will understand.

  30. FlyHigh says:

Not Cechmanek’s fault the Flyers couldn’t score.
