Tkachuk and Brathwaite Re-sign

(Jul 15) tsn.a – Forward Keith Tkachuk and goaltender Fred Brathwaite signed one year contracts with the St. Louis Blues on Monday.

Both players were Group II restricted free agents and received qualifying offers from the Blues.

Tkachuk’s signing was a formality. He told the team weeks ago that he would sign the $8.3 million qualifying offer. His agent, meanwhile, is continuing to work with the Blues on a long term deal.

Well, i wonder where Tkachuk is going next season. Brathwaite is a reaosnable back-up goalie, and their goaltending tandem is good enough for the playoffs.

So much for that whole Legace thing. Now that Tkachuk has re-signed, I think the Blues are still a strong team. Not a top team, but good enough for 6th in the West, maybe even 5th. The Blues’ goaltending is still shakey. I think they should go with the hot hand during the season and into the playoffs. Brathwaite is a very capable goalie. He could be a number 1 guy. That’s not a knock on Johnson, he’s still the guy i would go with, but when (and he probably will) he falters at times during the season, I would be comfortable with Brathwaite.
