Tons of rumors from the Ottawa Sun

The ball is now in the courts of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals.

The Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins have both made their pre-deadline moves, so it’s up to Pittsburgh GM Ray Shero and Washington’s George McPhee to react.

The Flyers, already a top team, bulked up by bringing in RW Kris Versteeg from Toronto, while the Bruins acquired Leafs D Tomas Kaberle and Atlanta LW Rich Peverly with two pretty swift moves.

Shero could react by making a pitch for Dallas C Brad Richards, but he has a no-movement clause and the Stars are in a hunt for a playoff spot, even though they’re going in the wrong direction.

Florida GM Dale Tallon is trying to unload before the deadline. Pretty much anybody on the Panthers roster is available — including C Stephen Weiss, if somebody will give up a first-round pick. The list I’ve been given of available players in Florida: LW Cory Stillman, C Steve Reinprecht, D Bryan McCabe, RW Steve Bernier, D Dennis Wideman, RW Radek Dvorak, C Shawn Matthias and Vokoun. OK, that pretty much covers the team. The Penguins could acquire Stillman, while McCabe and Wideman are good possibilities to get moved …

The Habs, Sharks and Canucks have interest. Avs veteran RW Milan Hejduk and D Adam Foote are also available.

Well another player (Gaborik) lost to concussion.

Naaahhh, the NHL isn't as violent as it was back in the 80's.

  2. leafy says:

Eklund says the Leafs are pursuing B Schenn.

But L.A. needs help right now, so the Leafs probably have to give up a roster player. But whom? Grabovski? MacArthur? Kulemin?

If I was Burke, I'd try to take advantage of Grabo's soaring value.

  3. dumbassdoorman says:

As much as it would be great, there is know way I see Burke acquiring Schenn from LA.

  4. leafy says:

Grabo and Kadri for B Schenn and a pick might be tempting.

L.A. is desperate for help, and they feel if they squeak into the playoffs, they can cause some damage.

Apparently, the rumored deal would be:

Kadri, Kessel for Schenn and Simmonds

A part of me cringes hearing this, but a part of me wants to do it.

Also, I have no problem dealing Kadri to another team. I truly do believe he's a team cancer type player, and I hate that.

  6. leafy says:

Very interesting. Apparently Simmonds is very popular among Kings fans and they don't want him traded, but the Kings feel he is one player that could fetch good return for the short term.

So if this deal happens, it would be two very good pieces for the Leafs.

  7. LeafsFTW17 says:

Im also okay with trading Kadri. I like him, I think he will be a good player but I can see him causing many mistakes and being a minus guy.

But Im just not down with trading Kessel. I think with he could get in the 40-50 goal range with a good center.

  8. leafy says:

I agree, the Kings would have to add something else to make it fly, because they'd get a guaranteed scorer in Kessel, while Schenn is currently only a promise.

  9. reinjosh says:

Trading Grabo like this is a great way to make sure we become perpetual re-builders.

  10. leafy says:

The question is, will Grabo play like this next year or is he a one year wonder?

  11. reinjosh says:

Its a very apt question but up to this point he hasn't exactly disappointed. He was a 50 point player in his first year and was on pac for similar last year. I don't think this is out of the blue.
