Top 25 Free Agents Left

Here are the top 25 free agents that remain. I have added my thoughts on where they might go, why, and a pure guess on how much it would take to sign these remaining players. Pickings are slim but still some decent guys left who can help.

Vincent Damphousse (COL) -Pens sign him for 900K to fill in when Mario is out and/or fill hole at centre in case Malkin cant come.

Dave Andreychuk (TB) -Returns for 1 more year with the Bolts for $1 million.

Scott Young (DAL) -Would be another worthy veteran to help mentor the Caps kids. Could go for 500K

Peter Bondra (OTT) -Thrashers need support scoring and could grab him for 3 million.

Steve Thomas (DET) -Leafs mind as well bring back Stumpy for the minimum. Need wing help and leadership.

Brian Savage (PHO) -Another stop-gap player for Washington. Team needs depth and experience. Could go for 700K

Yanic Perreault (MTL) -Sens should pick up faceoff whiz who is good for 20-25 goals. 900K would be the likely cost

Teemu Selanne (COL) -Chicago would be smart to grab him to mentor young Ruuttu. Could go for 3 million

Adam Deadmarsh (LA) -Colorado could take a chance on him. Big risk but would probably come cheap like 700K

Matt Johnson (MIN) -Wings could use more toughness with loss of Mccarty and Hatcher. Could go for 700K

Mark Messier (NYR) -Return to Edmonton not out of the question. Could make minimum being player/assistant coach

Mikael Samuelsson (FLO) -Another likely leaf for league minimum. Good depth guy with size.

Scott Stevens (NJ) -Devils or retirement. Could go for 850K which is what Chelly got in detroit.

Murray Baron (STL) -Grizzled Vet could return to Vancouver for league minimum

Jason Woolley (DET) -Could go back to where he started in Washington. They need a mentor for their kids and could go for 800K

Scott Lachance (CLB) -Another guy who should go to the Nucks. Played well with Jovo before. Could go for 650K

Bryan Marchment (TOR) -Leafs should bring veteran back. Good team guy and still intimidating. Sign for maybe the min

Todd Simpson (OTT) -Wings again after more toughness and size really need it on D. probably could be had for 500K

Jason York (NSH) -Likely return to Nashville for bargain price of 600K

Stephane Quintal (LA) -For depth purposes, he could help the Bruins. Probably would come for 600K

Brad Brown (BUF) -Islanders could use injection of size, toughness and leadership on D. Brown fits the bill for 700K

Lyle Odelein (FLO) -Habs would be smart to bring back this tough veteran. Could come for minimum.

Mike Dunham (NYR) -Calgary needs a backup and he is best guy left. 750K is a bargain for him

Felix Potvin (BOS) -Avs need experienced backup for Aebischer and the Cat could come for 600K

Byron Dafoe (ATL) -Solid veteran backup for Garon in LA. Would come for minimum. Played there once before

LEAFS SHOULD TRADE AWAY PIERRE HEDIN, BERG, KABERLE, KILGER, KLEE, PILAR, TELLQVIST, WILM, ANTROPOV.

LEAFS SHOULD THEN SIGN STEVENS, MARCHMENT,BRAD BROWN, TEEMU SELANNE AND MAYBE PAVEL BURE.

LEAFS SHOULD TRADE THE PLAYERS AT THE TOP FOR WITT, TOOTOO, CHEECHOO AND MARC DENIS

    OH YAH I LOVE IT!

STANLEY CUP WOULD BE A SURE THING IN TORONTO IF I WERE THE GM OF THE TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS. I WOULD ALSO SIGN PETER WORRELL TO BE AN EXTRA PLAYER IN CASE OF INJURY OR A PLAYOFF SERIES AGAINST THE FLYERS. CUP TO THE LEAFS ALL THE WAY!!

    . . . that sh@t doesn’t even happen in video games.

  3. nordiques100 says:

enjoy watching T.O make an ass out of himself and the Eagles

  4. TheHead says:

dude is all that you do just sit on your computer and turn down all trade rumors and ideas? maybe you should try writing a rumor or idea about a team! half of us on this website are joking about these trades!

  5. toronto77 says:

the leafs should bring back marchment he did not have a lot of points last season 1goal and 4assists i think…….. we need his aggrasion but if we get him back and we plan to get witt there will be no room for coliacovo, i really like marchment i’d rather have him than berg or pilar.

    6 defencmen mccabe,klee,kaberle,khavanov,berg,coliacovo or pilar

the 6 defencemen i’d rather have mccabe, klee, kaberle, khavanov, marchment, coliacovo(or witt if we get him)

if we get witt than get rid of either coli or march

  6. distance7 says:

Do you even think before you type anything?

  7. detY192003 says:

Last I knew they still had about 8 mill to spend…but theyve been trying to get Zetterberg and Datsyuk…

  8. mmatras says:

are you like a six year old kid still in Leafs pyjamas? ‘Cause if so I’ll take it easy on you and not ruin your dreams, fantasies and excitement for the game. Otherwise, I gotta say, you post the most regularly stupid comments I have seen on this site.

  9. NemiNA says:

    Caps lock man caps lock.

  11. Kings17 says:

With what money? The leafs would be lucky to be able to aford a box of sticks!

  12. Kings17 says:

Only one problem your team doesn’t have 800K!!

  13. NemiNA says:

yeah man, that sh@t doesn’t even happen in video games. Dont take shots at people when you bring it on yourself.

  14. KAPUTY says:

Why do you even bother man… Perreault and Marchment to Pittsburgh, do you know what position Yannic plays and do you know how many centres Pittsburgh already has? Nice, really nice!

  15. The_Cramp says:

I totally agree with Cyberwally! The face of hockey will change, most of the teams will make some place for the young guys and wont pay for names(has-beens) who cost more money….and those will be the smartest teams , development will be key, young skills for a tiny part of the cap is the key and then dont miss your shot with the highest paid players cause you’re screwed.

  16. mnpuckme says:

Matt Johnson still has not recovered from shoulder surgery and has tired of the enforcer life. He has an MBA and a successful business and will likely retire.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see Bondra in Minnie if he signs for the same as Gaborik. Perrault would be another option if they don’t think O’Sullivan is ready for the leap.

  17. saiklo says:

I bother because the Penguins need a veteran 2nd line center to play between LeClair and Recchi.

Malkin’s arrival is not certain. And behind him, there is no viable 2nd line option.

Who is going to play? Milan Kraft? Kris Beech? Matt Hussey? Rico Fata? Shane Endicott?

As far as Marchment, it was confirmed his agent has spoken with Penguins GM Criag Patrick.

So before you make uninformed comments, look at the roster capabilities and form objective conclusions.

  18. saiklo says:

Unlike most of you, I have actually seen Crosby play, and I will tell you, he can slash with the best of them.

Anyone that wants to test him will feel it.

As far as the Flyers go, their big, dumb, slow defense will quickly learn under the rule changes.

As far as Bertuzzi goes, he is a criminal and should never play hockey again. If you people truly were fans of the sport, you would all agree.

Dont be jealous that the Penguins have 2 franchise centers, 2 franchise defenseman, and a franchie goalie all under the age of 21.

  19. adambuffalo says:

i would like him back. he is a solid d man who could lead the young guys. he may be a bit slow now, but he is a really sound player.

  20. raine_kalisz says:

I like the way he plays, would love to see him sign anywhere. He scored a beauty in the playoffs last year where he smashed his head real good into the post after.

  21. Marky2Fresh says:

Hey just thought I would say I started a Yahoo Fantasy League for all the guys at HTR

The League ID# is 8513 and the password is HTR

There are 20 spots, only join if you know you can remain active, look forward to seeing you guys

  22. nelsog says:

How about bringing him back to Montreal?

  23. goodfela26 says:

Don’t you mean “potential” franchise players? Neither of those 2 centers you’re talking about have played an NHL game yet, so the jury is still out as to whether they can hack it at that level.

  24. goodfela26 says:

What are you projecting the Pens lines to be? Recchi will most likely be on the first line with Mario.

  25. splendidchink says:

C’mon, if he even THINKS about cheap shotting anyone now his career is OVER! And the Flyers have already stopped themselves by losing most of their good offensive players and signing 3 slugfooted D-Men.

  26. Marky2Fresh says:

If the password does not work try HTR in all caps

  27. Megaroset says:

I like the way you think. I’ve been hoping for Perrault to sign with Edmonton for a long time now. He’d be a good fit, and maybe playing with a player like Smyth would show him how to play with more heart. Deadmarsh would also be nice. Brewer gone makes me cry, but Pronger is gonna be great on D for them. What I hate is they’re not filling any holes. They’re trading player for player – they haven’t gained. We need some scoring touch here, and trading C for C does not get you anywhere. It’ll be interesting to see what moves they make yet.

  28. Megaroset says:

    that was original.

  29. CBA says:

It’s what we call a Leafs trade.

  30. CommonSense says:

WHY ARE YOU YELLING DON’T BE AFRAID OF GRAMMAR EITHER PUNCTUATION IS GOOD.

  31. Nevyn says:

Everyone assumes that Crosby will be playing with Mario. Recchi could play the other wing but so could Palffy.

Either way, they’ll still have a dynamic second line that they could want a capable, experienced centerman for if it’s in the budget.

Also, who is on what line will change quite often do to injuries I imagine. This again means the Pens would like another centre iceman as Mario will likely miss many games. 50 games is a complete season for him.

  32. TheHead says:

WHAT ARE YOU A TEACHER! THIS SITE IS ABOUT HOCKEY NOT SPELLING DICK HEAD!

  33. TheHead says:

THE GROUND WORK IS ALREADY ON THE TABLE! MARCHMENT WILL REPORTEDLY SIGN A 1YR DEAL FOR 450,000. LEAFS HAVE CONTACTED THOMAS ABOUT A 1YR DEAL WORTH 450,000.
