The slow pace of Carey Price's contract talks is "relatively normal," his agent says. John Kenney, Gazette
Nothing terribly significant to report on contract talks between the Canadiens and goaltender Carey Price, who has been an unsigned restricted free agent for a little more than a month.

The Price is wrong?????
TheLeafNation91 writes "The Canadiens season starts in about a month and surprisingly the biggest question for the Habs right now is in net. Instead, this time it's not about if Price can handle the pressure once again, as its now if he will ever sign with the club. Rumors have began to swirl that Price is demanding a lot of money from the club since he's their only goaltender."

HTR Feature Article: Canadiens are latest name to be cranked out in Bieksa rumour mill
Another day, another Kevin Bieksa rumour.
The latest twist in Twitter-land is that the Montreal Canadiens covet the Vancouver Canucks defenceman in exchange for 2010 first-round draft choice Jarred Tinordi. The rumour has some legs because the Canucks had interest in the 6-foot-5 blueliner, who's the son of former NHL defenceman Mark Tinordi. He had nine points and 68 penalty minutes with the U.S. National Team Development Program last season and a was a member of the U.S. team that won the 2010 under-18 world title. Tinordi is projected as a tough, top-four defenceman and that's why the Canadiens traded up to take him 22nd overall last month.
gohabsgo17 writes "With Habs' training camp just over a month away, it seems as though it's safe to say we can predict who will suit up for the team on their October 7th season opener in Toronto. Here are my thoughts on team."

Canadiens, Predators engage in three-player swap
The Nashville Predators sent a pair of unrestricted free agents to the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday in exchange for restricted free agent forward Sergei Kostitsyn.
In return for Kostitsyn, the Canadiens acquired goaltender Dan Ellis and forward Dustin Boyd. A fifth-round conditional pick in the 2012 Entry Draft could also be transferred from one team to the other depending on whether each player signs with his new team or if his rights end up being traded.

There were a few raised eyebrows last week when Pouliot was not in a group of restricted free agents who received qualifying offers from the club.

Halak trade bold but unpopular move
Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier showed he’s not a man to shy away from a bold, unpopular decision when he traded playoff hero Jaroslav Halak to the St. Louis Blues for two unproven prospects.
The stunning deal announced Thursday afternoon moves Carey Price back into the No. 1 goaltending job, a position he lost to Halak this year.

Examining Markov!
TimTheBone writes "So I was wondering about what the Habs options for this off-season were considering they are tight against the cap with many players due for raises whether it be a large raise or small. The thought came to my mind that maybe a trade including Andrei Markov might be beneficial for the club. While a huge asset he may be, the Habs proved this post-season they can play without him with great success. Much of this success is in direct correlation to P.K. Subban and his solid play.
So i visited the idea of trading Markov for lesser priced skilled large wingers. First of all, I personally like idea of keeping both Halak and Price , but i also believe this to be impossible, So I went with the more matured of the two. Also Price would fetch more in a trade i believe.

State of the Montreal Canadiens
SportsJerseysCanada writes "The Montreal Canadiens surprised everyone by beating the Washington Capitals and the Pittsburgh Penguins before losing to the Philadelphia Flyers in the Eastern Conference Finals. This team had been depleted by injuries all season long and were finally able to pull everything together in the playoffs despite playing without their number one defenseman Andrei Markov.
Bob Gainey was heavily criticized for a number of his moves over the past few years but his overall record doesn't look so bad. The Montreal Canadiens made it to the playoffs in five of the six years that Gainey was GM and three of those times they made it past the first round. He was also criticized for signing small players last summer but it certainly wasn't a factor in these playoffs."

They both want to play, Jaroslav Halak and Carey Price are quick to admit. But they know they’re nothing more than pawns in this game, their moves and futures ultimately dictated in the weeks ahead by Canadiens management.
“We’re both young and both want to play as much as we can,” Halak said. “And I’m sure management will do their best to make sure we do play.
