The leafs will not sign carter, however, they just might be able to sign daze if they can trade telly and belak for anything above a fith round pick and I would be happy. Too many goalies and we have a problem. Belak doesnt fight wouldnt miss either of them.

i’m tired of that guy now … wow!!! just get signed once in for all!!!

problem is, JFJ just resigned belak and he aint trading him …

JFJ seems to be-laking any hockey sense.

id be a terrible general manager dont get me wrong.. but i just thought id share what id do if i had the power.

Nik Antropov & Hal Gill to the Pittsburgh Penguins for the Penguins’ second-round pick of 2007.

sign David Tanabe (Quick on his feet – capable of 20+ points)

Mikael Tellqvist & Andy Wozniewski to the Anaheim Ducks for Vitaly Vishnevski (Vishnevski: not as phsically dominant as Hal Gill, but a lot quicker and nastier)(Ducks will need a backup goaltender if they end up trading one of their two capable starters)

Sign Anson Carter (trading Antropov clears up enough cap space for the Leafs to aquire Carter)

Carlo Colaiacovo to the Edmonton Oilers for Andrew Cogliano(A quicker more skilled version of Kyle Wellwood)

Alexander Steen – Mats Sundin – Anson Carter

Darcy Tucker – Kyle Wellwood – Jeff O’Neill

Alexei Ponikarovsky – Michael Peca – Matt Stajan

Chad Kilger – John Pohl – Aleksander Suglobov

Nikolai Kulemin – Jeremy Williams – Bates Battaglia

Robbie Earl – Andrew Cogliano – Ben Ondrus

    Jiri Tlusty – Erik Westrum

    Tomas Kaberle – Bryan McCabe

    Pavel Kubina – Ian White

    Vitaly Vishnevski – David Tanabe

    Staffan Kronwall – Jay Harrison

    Phil Oreskovic – Wade Belak

    Brendan Bell

    Andrew Raycroft

    Jean-Sebastien Aubin

    J.F Racine

    Justin Pogge

    Todd Ford

i’d have to agree with your first sentence. … lol … but its good that you can laugh at yourself.

i like the pittsburgh trade but JFJ is in love with Gill and won’t trade him … maybe at the deadline when it becomes really obvious what kind of player Gill is. but then again, JFJ still hasn’t realized what kind of player Belak is.

(by the way, the belak re-signing has overshadowed everything now, if Rutherford were to make this move the day after the Canes won the cup, i’d STILL call for his head – its just that bad of a move)

also, why would the leafs need Tanabe – a terrible defenseman. i say just let another spot go to the young guys – maybe harrison.

again, the Visnevski deal wouldnt happen with Burke as GM and it wouldnt make sense. we dont need more defensemen. just some picks would be fine.

sighing Carter would be fine i think – even if it meant going to the cap ceiling because, lets face it, the leafs could use the depth on the right side. hopefully carter would sign for less than 3 million and less than 3 years. i’d rather the leafs go after Dumont but that aint happening either.

no way Edmonton trades Cogliano. also, Coliacovo probably looks like damaged goods to other GMs. its better for the leafs to continue giving him his chance in T.O. we know he has the talent and skill and – suprisingly last year – the physicality. he just needs the luck. maybe this is the year? if not? maybe next year is the year. etc.

as for the lines: keep matt stajan down the middle. also, i know a lot of leaf fans hate it when i say this, but keep Peca as your 4th line centre beside Pohl and Kilger. Stajan can play between Suglobov (or Williams) and Tucker. Wellwood between Poni and O’Neill, and Mats between Steen and Carter.

i think the 3 young guys on the leafs defence should include White, Coliacovo, and one of Harrison or Kronvall.

    my 2 cents.

the leafs really need to go after Dumont for Sundin’s left side.

he’s 4 years younger than Carter and can put up similar numbers.

clear out the cap space – meaning: trade Tellqvist’s 500K and Antropov’s 1 million to whoever will take them (obviously for mid-to-low round draft picks) (i would also include Gill and Belak in those deals but JFJ isnt that smart).

but then you’ll have Dumont who will sign between 2.75 and 3 million (a little bit much IMO) and the leafs will be right at the cap ceiling. what this will do is pressure JFJ over the early part of the season to really look at his roster and trade whoever is not performing on it (i.e. Gill, Belak, etc.).

notice that the right side is weaker with Antropov gone and Tucker having to play on the left side. but this Dumont signing is a solid long-term signing considering his age. it would also force JFJ to actually play guys like Pohl, Suglobov, and Williams and see what they are made of. in the offseason, the leafs can try to sign Tucker and assess the O’Neill and Peca situations. they can, if they havent already, try to dump Gill and Belak to free up more space under the cap, and they will be without Domi and Belfour’s contracts. also, they can pick up Sundin’s option, which is less than what he is making right now. with Tucker’s raise(2-2.75 million?), the leafs will still have lots of room under the cap.

i think, eventually (probably when a new GM comes in), the leafs are going to really have really consider trying to trade Kubina and his 5 million to another team. that is WAY too much cap space taken up for a player of his calibre.

AND HE SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THAT EXTRA 3 MILLION (gill’s 2.1, the extra million left over from McKee’s 4 million contract subtracted from Gill’s 5 million) AND INVESTED IT IN A SOLID, YOUNG WINGER LIKE DUMONT.

Im questioning Carter, he seems a little bit too overrated, and we don’t need him. If we WERE going to sign someone else, although i believe we are fine, I would much rather sign Daze. You could get him relatively cheap. Dumont would be good too. he would probably be around the same price range, but much better in my opinion.

  8. LeafyMcLeaf says:

Eric Daze is awesome, and so is Anson Carter. If we can get them cheap, we’d be awesome.

  10. Mattqwerty says:

i wish someone would just sign this guy so i can stop hearing about him this guy is so overrated i realy dont care who signs him now
