Trade Raycroft!

In my opinion I think JFJ should trade Andrew Raycroft. He’s not set to be a number 1 goalie. He’s too leisurely in net. I think a good trade would be Raycroft for goaltender Ray Emery and maybe a number 2 or 3 draft pick. I hate the Senators just as much as the next Leaf fan, but emery is only getting better. I also think he can carry a team in the playoffs.

I know i will get bashed for this, however its quite true and you all know it. Think of it this way, at least i don’t want to see Steen go.

Why would the sens want a werse goalie than they have, and why would they give up any drafts plus Emery.

  2. DeathCab says:

…..This trade might have had this smallest chance of happening if it had gone down before the Sens signed Gerber.  After that, there was no reason to bring in another goalie that would cost them a couple mill a year.  And after the season started, Emery emerged as their #1, so there's no way they'll trade him now.

Maybe if you were asking for Gerber they'd think about it..but then I think that's a step sideways at best

the leafs would trade aubin for a sack of potatoes before trading raycroft he is playing some great hockey there have been games where he stood on his head what JFJ should do is try to get either eshe or biron then have them fight  for the number 1 next season bring up pogge as backup

  4. bleedingblu says:

Has anyone stopped to think that maybe Raycroft needs some time off. I dont like the fact that Maurice is going to ride this guy for 70+ games!! Get Aubin in there too. Same thing happened last year and when they did decide to play Aubin he wins 10 games in a row. If they would have played him earlyier they would have made the playoffs…… Maurice don't make the same mistake Quinn did.
Let Raycroft sit awhile… make him earn number 1 spot!!!

  5. MogilnyFan1990 says:

i agree with bleedingblu  …. aubin can do just as good a job as raycroft…  aubin will just get rusty and when raycroft gets tired, we wont have a good goalie to start the games.

  6. Oley says:

out of all the teams in the league. why emery. yes hes getting better but come on. a trade between leafs and sens will never happen unless its a minor trade. no big names will b traded between these teams for the fact both teams dont want that player 2 come and hurt them in the future.

    thats wat i think atleast

  7. bleedingblu says:

Why would the Leafs want Emery?? He won't make it to the end of the season because one of two things will happen:
    1) A player is going to pound on this guy
    2) He'll get charged for assault for attacking a player with his stick.

    …. I hope its number 1.

We would never trade goaltenders with the Sens..

Yeah Emery has been soooo solid inthe playoffs of past… right? HAHA, not to mention he's a loose cannon, as in gets suspended for 3 games for hitting a guy in the face with his stick. I wouldnt want that kind of player representing my team.

As for Raycroft you can't argue that the Leafs got a great deal with this guy making 2 million for the next 3 years. Sure he's not in the elite group of tenders, but who knows what he could be like in one or two years. Even if he doesnt pan out your still only paying 2 million for a SOLID back up. If your paying a starting goalie that much you can't expect a Vezina performance night in and night out. You get what you pay for, and the Leafs paid 2 million, which might be under valuing Raycroft with his play as of late.

  13. leaflova says:

Emery is doing good and Raycroft is doing bad. How are we supposed to get Emery from Ottawa for Raycrofy??The only way this would happend is if JFJ was the Ottawa gm and he's NOT. Keep on dreaming.

  14. sfox19 says:

There is no way that the leafs will trade Raycroft.  There are too many other positions that they must fill first.  I think, although I hate to say it, this is the year where the leafs are sellers and not buyers.  I hope I am wrong, but I think this is the beginning of the "Rebuilding Stage".  No way that the sens would trade emery at all anyway

  15. leafmeister says:

Listen Leaf fans are just used to vets in net. Belfour and cujo both had over 2 hundred game experience when they came here. Raycroft is still  young. This guy has skill and will carry the team in net until one of our prospects is ready.

  16. ty656789 says:

The problem with Raycroft is that he seems to relax a little bit too much when the Leafs have a lead. That stat they always mention about how the leafs have barely won any games when they score 3 goals or less is because Raycroft lets in soft goals when teams are down a goal or 2. How many teams have come back and almost beat  them, if not beat them, late in games? How many OT and SO losses has this caused? Cujo was good because he always seemed to play better when they had a one goal lead or were down by a goal. I really do see the potential in Raycroft. The leafs pay him 2 mil a year. That's pretty good for a young goalie, who has one the Calder and this is only his 3rd full year as a starter. Goalies take time to groom. Comapare Raycroft's career stats to Hasek's, Biron's and even Luongo's and you will see that they are pretty comparable stat wise. You can say that Florida sucked, but the leafs aren't much better than they were.  That is why goalies like dryden, roy, brodeur, belfour… are so special. They are great right away. Raycroft's name will not be beside their's in the hall of fame, but he probably does have a few good seasons in him and this one is still not over yet. Goalies and teams take time to build and if you can build them together, all the better. You can't just keep blowing them apart and bringing in new faces. How much loyalty are you going to have for your team if they aren't showing loyalty to the teammates around you? Moral in the dressing room is a big part of any team sport. You have to WANT to bleed for your teammates not just be willing to. Any team, regardless of skill (in the NHL) with that attitude, would be a team that other teams dread playing. That's how the leafs were in the late 90's early 2000's. Just my opinions.

  19. BieksaForMVP says:

First of all he wasn't bad, and second he's only ever played in the playyoffs once. Ray is a smart guy, and he won't get many more suspention.

  20. Pony says:

Not sure what more he can do to earn it. And everyone knows Aubin is a very streaky goalie.

  22. burton686 says:

Why in the world would the Sens trade Emery AND draft picks for a goalie who couldn't make a glove save even if his life depended on it? Raycroft is mediocre at best!! They have a good shot at making the playoffs as 7th or 8th seed, but Raycroft will never take them past the 1st round. Unfortunately we missed out on Kolzig a few years back and Khabibulin a few years ago as well. We coulda had a good goalie to replace Belfour, but we screwed it up…. Here's to another 40 years of no Cup!!! FIRE JFJ!!!!!

I like the idea of playing Raycorft 70+, although I'm lukewarm of Raycorft.  Playing Raycorft for 70+ forces him to evolve into a consistently solid goalentender or a huge failure.  Better figure out what he is this year rather than over the next three years.

  26. Toonces99 says:

I say ride Raycroft like Seabiscuit.  Most goalies need to find a groove, l think he's getting there with this stretch, Good on Maurice for establishing it early that he's the man until told otherwise.  Curbs any possible problems with Aubin, the last thing you want is your back-up to start crap during a playoff push.  Is he "great" very few goalies in this league are, is he "good" I think so, the jury's still out though….

  27. leafsbabe says:

Ya, carry them straight to the basement.  I'll give you the fact that he can come up with some great saves, and when on occasion he's hot, he's really hot.  The problem with him is ALL of the weak, soft goals he lets in.  That is one thing he is really consistant in, and nothing deflates a team more than that.

Look at the Penguins game, they were down 3-0, come back to lead 4-3, softie goes in and ties it up, lead 5-4, shock me shock me he lets another one in, and gives it up in overtime.  Another good example is the game against Boston feb. 20. Shots were 44-21 in favour of the boys in blue, and lose 3-0.  Thomas was STELLAR in net, and Raysoft lets 3 by him.  Personally I would have pulled him after the second, shorthanded goal.

I really think he needs to sit for a while, because with the way he has been, going on a streak where he's not playing too badly and then sieving it up for multiple games in a row.  Put Aubin in, not saying he's much better, but maybe it'll put the message across to clean up his act a bit.  Stop committing on shots so darn early, quit going down so much, and keep his stick on the ice – don't know if you've noticed but majority of the goals are high on the glove side or between his legs.

Either that or bench both and call up a rookie.  Probably won't win anymore games than now, but maybe it'll put the point across.

Oh, and i heard a joke the other day that i wanted to share:  I heard Raycroft tried to commit suicide the other night by jumping out infront of the team bus.  He failed though, cause it just drove right between his legs. (haha)  🙂
