Vancouver Signs Aaron Miller

The Vancouver Canucks announced Monday afternoon that they have signed free agent defenseman Aaron Miller, in keeping club policy terms of the deal were not disclosed.
With the signings of Miller and Bieksa I sense a blockbuster deal on the horizon.

i sense a blockbuster as well, this is how nonis likes doing things. Im guessing Ohlund is gone, as much as i love him, and rather see salo going. Id see Ohlund giving nonis a list of teams he would play for. lets see what nonis has up his sleeve. i would be very dissapointed to see bieksa gone. I think he will be wearing the C or an A in a few years.

He was signed for 1.5 million

  3. TheDugg1er says:

Wow, our defense was already set and now we add another hardworking defenseman. Our D is looking pretty scary, and as long as the forwards can build on the chemistry they started getting in the last half of the season, the Nucks may be a force to be reckoned with.

  4. avsjoendryan says:

bad pickup they didnt need him,now fitzy wont play =(

Something big has got to be right around the corner.  With 6 full time defensemen, Bourdon and Edler looking at the 7 / 8 spots, the Canucks are obviously looking to trade for a top 6 forward.  That New Jersey rumor for Elias may be looking more and more plausible.  Morrison and Ohlund for Elias, also Chicago has been mentioned wanting a solid veteran defensmen to shore up all their young guns.  Maybe Tuomo Ruutu or prospect Jack Skille, or David Bolland for Ohlund?  Probably the most likely is the Vancouver born and raised Troy Brouwer.  A power forward who plays the right wing…hint hint…perfect fit for the twins.  6'3", 215, right handed shot, 3rd in AHL goal scoring last year.  Plus with the additions of Kane, Sweat and Aliu in this years draft, Brouwer has dropped drastically in the Blackhawks depth chart.
    Who knows.

  6. tancred says:

Yeah, I said in the earlier Bieksa thread that I'd like to see Ohlund in NJ.  But not at the expense of Elias.  We need him more than we do Ohlund.  It will be interesting to see what happens.

  7. Antero says:

they resigned Pyatt for a reason.
the sedin line is already set.
i dont know why people insist on creating stupid rumors for players the canucks don't need.
its the naslund line that nonis has in mind.
    depth is set.
    sedin line is set.
    defense is set.
    goaltending is set.
    energy line is set.
    top line forwards- not set.
what are they going to do with some unproven prospect on their top line?

  8. TheDugg1er says:

grabner looked good with nazzy and morrison last year in training camp. I still think he won't make the team, but it's just another thought. Oh well, a trade is likely on the horizon and I can't wait to see what happens.

  9. PaulK123 says:

your offense is a bit on the bad side, no?

  10. jonnygf40 says:

They resigned Pyatt for depth.  You know….a top 9 forward.  Are you telling me Brouwer wouldn't look good on either Sedin's or the Naslund line?  This kid is going to be a tremendous power forward in the league, no matter who's line he's on.  And as far a Pyatt is concerned.  He is not a top line player either.  There is a reason he only averaged under 14 minutes a game last year, it's because he is a 3rd line player overachieving on a number 1 line.  Brouwer has the POTENTIAL to be a top 6 forward who can score 30 goals in the league.  That's how you get ahead in this league, trading for players with POTENTIAL and watching them grow into bonafied superstars.  Now I'm not boasting that Brouwer is going to be a superstar, but it would be worth the risk vs. reward to find out.
As far as a stupid rumor is concerned, I don't think that Brouwer and a 2nd round pick for Ohlund is that far fetched.  I'm sure Naslund can benefit from having a 6'3", 215 pound winger clearing a path for him to the net as well.
But hey, what do I know.

i sense a blockbuster 2 cuz with miller theres no rrom for bourdon or edler? could ohlund be leaving? how bout Gionta??

  12. Mr_Canuck says:

I know we need scoring now, and trading for a young guy might not make the most sense.. But we wanted Turris realy bad at the draft and couldn't land him.. Phoenix has cap room.. what do we think about a package with the main players being Turris and Ohlund with phoenix?

Doesn't really help us though unless we use the money elsewhere but still doesn't give us much cap saving.

  13. MR40 says:

Gretzky wanted Turris A LOT. He got there GM to try to aquire the 1st overall pick just to make sure he would get Turris. Maybe Mueller, or Hanzal, but the odds of getting Turris are as likely has us putting Luongo on waivers.

  14. jonnygf40 says:

The odds of getting Mueller are just as bad.  Perhaps Hanzal, the Canucks do need depth at center within the organization.  With Kesler as the only real prospect under 25 years old who plays down the middle.  I'd let Ohlund go for Hanzal, but I still like the deal I mentioned above with a package involving Brouwer.
I guess we'll just have to see.

  15. Mr_Canuck says:

I doubt we're gonna go for a prospect though.. We gotta get someone to give Nasy and brendan one more shot at being aline. After this year i doubt we'll see either back in a 'nuck uniform unless they both take cuts.

i hate that elias rumor as i really don't see NJ doing it when their moving into a new building soon, but would elias work with nas and morrison? i feel like we need a center more than anything but no clue who's available?

I doubt san jose would trade marleau to the west – so that may be out.

  16. nordiques100 says:

ohlund and cooke to carolina for cole and wallin. i think that would address needs for both teams. the canes need a minute munching top 3 D type of guy on defence and the canucks need a scoring winger big time.

contracts are a relative wash so that shouldnt impact cap wise.

  17. loco42 says:

Hey Paul, can so see the bright side of things? It might lead up to a trade or something. They had bad offence, but they finished first in their division, third in the conference.

  18. loco42 says:

I thought about it, you must see the glass as half empty. Go outside and get some sun, it’ll do you some good.

  19. canucklehead_101 says:

This is why Eklund says a deal will go down within 2-5 days and its a blockbuster

  20. neilios says:

This just makes room for a blockbuster trade that will see Brad Richards and Ryan Craig come to the Vancouver for Ohlund,Morrison,Edler, and a pick.I been hearing and seeing this possible deal for awhile now.It helps both teams the Bolts get there Dmen they need and the Canucks get some much needed scoring and PP help.

  21. neilios says:

Canucks new lines after they make the deal.

    Naslund      Richards        Cooke
    Sedin         Sedin            Craig
    Pyatt          Kesler           Hanson
    Cowan        Linden          Burrows

    Mitchell       Bourdon
    Bieska        Salo
    Krajicek      Miller

  22. jonnygf40 says:

Dude, if that trade ever happened your lines are horrid.

    Sedin       Sedin       Pyatt
    Naslund    Richards   Kesler
    Cooke      Shannon   Isbister
    Burrows     Ritchie      Cowan

    Bieksa    Mitchell
    Krajicek   Salo
    Bourdon   Miller

PS  The bolts are NOT giving up Craig.  He was the only player OFF the trade market at the dealine.  As an Abbotsford born and raised, I actually played with and against Ryan Craig in minor hockey, as well as attended the same high school, W.J. Mouat, and can tell you this guy is a true hockey palyer.  Size, takes the punishment in front of the net, a good penalty killer, does all the small things, the Bolts are not looking to trade this guy, even if its to his home town team.  And I can tell you he would LOVE to come to the Canucks, but it will never happen.
With that said, I could see Ohlund and Morrison being dealt for Richards.

  23. marleau07 says:

The Canucks lines after the deal:

    Sedin Sedin Pyatt
    Naslund Richards Cowan
    Craig Kesler Cooke
    Burrows Linden Hason

    Bieska Bourdon
    Salo Miller
    Mitchell Krajicek

  24. canucklehead_101 says:

Cole and Wallin wouldn't fit in our system

  25. canucklehead_101 says:

who's Hason maybe you mean Hansen

  26. sv996 says:

wow I definitely can see a trade coming hopefully we can land a much needed scorer for sure..just who is it most likely going to be?  I like the recent signing for sure adding more grit.
